90PS TDI

Hi

Am thinking of trading in my 2002 TDI for a 90ps model

Several on the Audi used car database ranging from £12k to £14.5k

Will depend on the cost to change which will be interesting to see how much I will get for mine.Probably peanuts

Before I do I just wanted to get any feedback on the benefits of the extra 15bhp over the 75 model.

I find mine quick enough around town and only on the longer runs do I miss the extra oomph

regards

antony

You could get more than just the extra 15bhp by chipping your car for £300 or so AND save futher by not getting hit again with depreciation on another car...

How much of a difference does it make to the car's speed and how does it affect diesel consumption and how much would it bump the insurance up to remap the car as i havebeen thinking about this also...

It might be worth remembering that VAG did a lot more than just remap the CPU to change the 75 to the 90PS. I did read some details - on here probably. THere was improved cooling, stronger pistons etc. etc. Might be more reliable than a remapped 75ps...

Thanks for your replies

I think they also added disc brakes to the rear as well

Will go to a dealer this weekend and see what kind of deals are on offer

Having owned a 1.4 petrol and driven a few 75hp diesels, the thing I recall impressing me most from my test-drive of the "90" is that additional mid-range torque so useful in real-life driving conditions.

Needless to say I bought one! A year or so and 26k miles later It's still great fun.

Having said that, we dont find the 75ps embarrassing on the open road... I was driving our AMG C43 following my partner and was impressed by how much performance I had to use to keep up (like it almost had to change down ;oD) I would be interested to feel how much the 90ps feels different.

Yes would be interesting to find out

I find my 75ps diesel around London when keeping the revs between 2000 and 3000 very quick.

The 90ps with its light body must be a little pocket rocket around town

Having never driven the 90ps version I can't say, but having a chipped 75ps version with about 115ps on tap is AMAZING fun.

It will upset a lot of other VAG cars and quite a few others too. As for mid range torque, well 3rd and 4th are just breath taking and performance between 50 - 120 is nothing to be ashamed of. This ignores the fact that I have an additional 110kg of gear that is permanently in the boot.

Out and out acceleration is a waste of time because there is too much power in 1st and 2nd and it is hard to keep the power down through the front wheels, but on the move, mid range power is good.. Just wait until I check out some NO2.. diesels love NO2, looking to see if 175bhp is possible and or practical... yep, I'm certified..!

Well, having had both a 75PS TDi and a 90PS TDi, I can definitely recommend going for the 'bigger' engine.
I've now had mine chipped by Simon Coe of CCC Tech in Sheffield and WOW - dyno'ed at 124BHP and performance that is out of this world for a 3 pot, 1.4 litre 'diseas'el' (as my Civic Type R owning colleague calls it!).
As has been said before, there's too much power for the traction control in first and second gears, but it comes into its own sfter that.
Next step - Miltek exhaust and larger tyres when they need replacing - a bit more rubber to lay the power down might help things a bit.
If you get the chance of a low mileage sport 90PS, go for it. Remember, they'll be very very rare soon (well, as rare as any modern production line car can be!).

WAS : A2 TDI SE 2001 Ebony Black Pearl (The Little Tank!)
NOW : A2 TDi 90 Sport, OpenSky, winter pack, ISOfix, fogs, climate control, all-round electric windows, Blaupunkt DAB54, genuine HID xenons and red leather! Not to mention CCC Tech chipping (118bhp) and all round tinting.(The NEW Tank)

I recently had an A2 TDI 90 as a courtesy car.

I found it much more flexible from low revs than 75s I've driven. When I picked it up I just assumed it was a 75 but within a few miles it was obvious that something was dfferent. When I checked of course I found it was a 90. If your after a diesel its the one I'd go for. I think the 90 got some other options (rear discs ?)
