This part of a dream I have. I love the sound of 5 cylinder engines and I am looking to see if it would be possible to fit one in an A2.
In Volvo world, although platforms were shared with Ford before the sale to the Chinese, where 5-cylinder engines went in them (petrol or diesel) these were all of Volvo origin. Then in about 2016 Volvo brought out their own 4-pot VEA range in both fuels, not a forward step in many opinions. I have a 5-pot diesel in my Volvo C70, a D3 which is a down-stroked and smoother version of the legendary D5. It would absolutely fly in something as light as an A2, but OMG the nose-weight!I had the volvo 5 cyclinder v40 diesel, think it was ford architecture
Do you mean the 5 cylinder one that was in the rally winning Quattros? Fantastic engine. Also available in the run out version of the Mk3 TT.This part of a dream I have. I love the sound of 5 cylinder engines and I am looking to see if it would be possible to fit one in an A2.

Had the Volvo d5 215hp xc70…. fabulous car and it could fly. So steady at 125+ mphIn Volvo world, although platforms were shared with Ford before the sale to the Chinese, where 5-cylinder engines went in them (petrol or diesel) these were all of Volvo origin. Love the Volvo 5 cylinder sound. Living in Sweden there are still a few around.Had the Volvo d5 215hp xc70…. fabulous car and it could fly. So steady at 125+ mph
In the words of Allen Millyard, every engine has a cylinder too little.
Anyway, the FSI is BAD enough with 4 cylinders.
Now that’s a thought. As I said in the original post, just a dream at the moment but looking at what is possible and the cost. Looking at Bentley inspired interior too.In respect to size of A2 only 5pot engine that may fit is 2.3 VR5 from Golf 4, New Beetle, Passat B5. All other 5 cyliders from VAG are inline that are too long for A2... Unless you place it longitudinally and RWD
I love what I have with the basic 1.4 petrol. But is is a dream idea for a mad A2 including a Bentley inspired interior tooIn the words of Allen Millyard, every engine has a cylinder too little.

Just sold a really nice 9-3 Saab Convertible and bought a 1997 SLK with 14k miles on the clock, outstanding condition.Love the Volvo 5 cylinder sound. Living in Sweden there are still a few around.
