A fond farewell...

Hi everyone,

The time finally came last week for me to part with my lovely little 2003 A2 FSI Sport after over 7 years of fun motoring. I loved the car, but the poor thing was starting to feel a little tired, even though she was immaculate and low mileage (only 80,000 miles). I was also desperate for an auto and a few mod cons.

She staged a protest just after agreeing to trade her in at the garage, leaving me stranded at work. £225 and a new crank sensor later, we were back on the road, but I felt that it confirmed I had made the right decision.

I've spotted my A2 for sale at a garage on auto trader for more than double what they gave me, the cheeky sods. But thats just how it goes when you trade in. I only hope she goes to a good home.

So I just wanted to thank everyone for their friendliness and help over the years. This really is a great forum and there is so much knowledge available which helps make A2 ownership such a great experience.

And what have I traded her in for? Well after much consideration, I've bought a nearly new Mini Cooper auto with a few options. So although I'm no longer part of the A2 club, I have joined the 3 cylinder club. I must admit that it's an amazing car. It's great to drive and the interior feels solid and well built. The engine is a cracker as well. It's a turbo charged 1.5 litre unit which makes to car pretty quick (0-60 in 7.8 seconds), and claimed combined economy of over 60mpg! It's the same engine that is in the BMW i8 super car as well apparently. Now I know you never achieve the official figures, but the Mini is at least matching the economy of my FSI, whilst being so much quicker. The 6 speed auto is really smooth as well. I've attached a little picture so you can have a look. Feel free to let me know what you think.

Thanks again to everyone. I'll still be online to keep up to date with the latest. I can only hope the Mini forum is as fantastic as this one.

Take care

Adam

Don't forget to let us know if the Mini forum has any nice touches we could copy to further improve the A2oc.

Cheers Spike

You won't find many forums like this one. I'm a member of a few and sometimes there's no new posts for weeks. Enjoy your new purchase.
