The imminent arrival of the latest member of the Morley family has highlighted the total impracticality of our Lupo - which struggles to accommodate the weekly shop, let alone a car seat, pushchair and baby gubbins...

Fortunately, the good lady has consented to allow me to dispose of her VW and to replace it with the (marginally) bigger A2 - which I have been coveting ever since they were launched. Following an entertaining test drive last week, as well as the all important pushchair test - we're almost at the point of ordering one: although the battle over the trim colours has only just begun... [B)]

Anyway, instead of lurking around here and the A2OC club [:I] I thought I'd tell you all about it and trouble you for a couple of opinions, if I may:

  • Just how many speakers does the car come with? The standard equipment list reckons "Active speakers, 4 loud speakers located in front and rear doors" as well as "four loudspeakers located in front doors (40 watt)". Does this mean that it has eight speakers as standard? [?]
  • Is the beige interior easy to keep clean? We have the grey Satellite cloth in our Lupo and it invariably looks filthy, but I suspect that the black trim, even in combination with OpenSky will be too dark. Any thoughts?
  • Any known problems using GPS receivers - I only ask because a Laguna I had on hire recently blocked the signals totally...
I apologise for asking here when I should really be directing these issues at my dealer - but I feel that I'm likely to get better answers here and, besides, I'd rather like to preserve the impression of my knowing more about the car than the salesman (not difficult[:I]) for when it comes to discount-negotiation time ;)

Thanks... and apologies for worsening your bandwidth issues [:0]

First of all Welcome to the community or should I say welcome to the posting community [:p]. As regard to your first question the A2 comes with 6 speakers standard 4 front 2 rear if you by the upgraded CD player you will get 8 speakers total this consits of 4 loudspeakers front and rear and 4 tweeters front and rear making a total of 8 (2 per door ;)). As regards to the beige seats [|)] unfortunately the do get dirty rather easily, however if you opt for the superguard it will reduce the likelyhood of getting dirty to none (lol dealer tried to con my mum into get it £300 but she tricked him into give it to her free.) As for the GPS I know nothing about [V] sorry.

But hey welcome to the posting world. :D.

Welcome to the site.
We've got the beige interior and it really makes the inside light and airy. As for getting dirty, no problems yet but it probably will show the dirt more than a dark colour.
Our car has the standard factory CD player for SE spec and came with 8 speakers.

Finally, no-one should ever apologise for asking questions on the forum. Thats what it's here for. We were all A2 newbies at one point or another. I managed to clock up approx 76 posts of various questions and observations before our A2 was even delivered.

Welcome to the forum, and do please ask questions-it keeps the grey matter going!.

Just to add/confirm, my 2003 with standard fit Concert II single CD has 8 speakers (two per door).

I have the light grey satelite cloth in my A2 and you really have to look after it to keep it clean....:-( But we decided for it for the same reason you quoted: It makes the interiour more airy when you don´t have open sky (was not availiable on my 1.2). If you buy the normal Chorus cassette player, you get 4 speakers in the front doors, none in the back....at least here in Germany!

Bye, Frido.

Thank you for the replies, gentlemen... I will, of course, endeavour to continue to challenge your collective grey matter in any way I can ;)

I think we'll go for the beige interior - it lends a certain airiness and [perhaps] a touch of class... it's also closer to the colour of our local Devonian mud...

After I posted, another problem with the GPS sprang to mind - the antenna secures magnetically to the roof... or at least it would with a steel car :) Time for a rethink on that score, at least...

So, next weekend we're off to our local Audi Centre to see how close they'll come to the GBP 15,310 quote I got from DriveTheDeal for the car below.

Cheers,

I had the dark grey interior - the seats etc stayed looking nice, but the door trims showed marks very easliy - you only have to touch them to leave 'skin' marks, basically because of the rough surface.

but the door interior is good for taking the rough edge off your fingernails.......

Hi and welcome!
On the GPS front, something else to bare in mind. If you are going to buy a non factory fitted GPS system it may not work in the A2. I bought a GPS cradle for my Palm V but later discovered that the A2 has heat reflecting athermic glass...whatever that means! Anyway, as far as I can tell it prevents GPS signals from entering the car unless, as you say you stick an external aerial on.

Steve, you're right. It is also good for rubbing down grazes on your arms, to give that totally smooth skin effect. Probably removes surface hair as well, could save on shaving cream!

I find if I rub my rabbit against the door trim, it brings her up all soft and smooth...

On the GPS.

My VDO Dayton antenne is located under the dashboard and it has a perfect view of the satellites...

It's possible to get a roof mounted GPS/Telephone/Radio antenna for the A2, looks very sophisticated, costs about 700 Euro !!

Thanks for the advice re. GPS systems. I suspect the antenna on the VDO receiver is of better quality than that on a PDA cradle and can pick up the attenuated signals easier.

Because of the area of shallow sloping glass at the back, I'm going to mount my external re-radiating aerial on a suction bracket inside the rear window - powered by the rear 12v socket. The receiver's antenna will be mounted in a similar fashion at the base of the windscreen and hopefully, the combination of what it can pick up through the athermic glass and the massively amplified signals from the rear window should give it enough to be going on...

Now, if only the built-in systems were a realistic price...

Roll on Saturday...;)
