A2 1.2 TDI transmission

Hello:

Diligent members may recall I was looking for an A2 1.2 TDI.

I am in Germany as I type (I live in Canada; going home tomorrow) and have been looking at some cars here. Drove one today, and it looks like a contender.

Question - does anyone know if all A2 1.2 TDIs have the automatically-shifted DSG-type manual five-speed gearbox. The car I drove looked (and felt) like a five-speed torque coverter Tiptronic automatic. Did any of the 1.2 TDIs come with a pure manual. Was there ever a torque converter automatic offered in ANY A2.

And if you wonder why I am not typing question marks, I am using a friend`s computer here in Germany, the family has all gone to bed, and while it says it`s an English keyboard, I cannot find the question mark!

Cheers,

Jim Kenzie

The A2 1.2Tdi does have a manual gearbox and a clutch but no clutch pedal! It's just an automated manual with hydraulic actuation. It is entirely different to the DSG gearbox. It was the only A2 automatic. A torque converter-equipped 1.2 would not have achieved the required 100km/3L diesel.

It is possible to fit with cruise control and Up/Down shift (5 speed) on new steering wheel.

Search you tube for conversion

erstens should be able to tell you all you ever wanted to know about that as he's partly responsible IIRC :)

there's also the guy in Berlin who reprograms the ECU so cruise is available.
