A2 Cars Feedback

Hi Steve,

Just (30 mins ago) talked to Tony about the work he is doing on my A2.
Phone is usually answered reasonably promptly.
Are you sure your problem is not a 'misdial'?

Andy

Are A2 cars still trading ? phone rings, no answer. No reply to email contact either

I know Tony was on holiday recently, whether that had anything to do with your experience. They are a fantastic garage and have always been accesible and had great communications with me....and I have only used their services on one occasion thus far. In fact, Tony called me just over a week ago to follow up on some preventative maintenance work we previously discussed. Great man great team. Like many cannot recommend enough.

Thank you to the kind member who alerted us to this post.

As Paul has stated the workshop has been closed for three weeks whilst we've been away on leave, but we are very much back & trading :D.
We are responding to over 200 email and voice mail requests and are steadily working through these enquiries.

Steve, your email landed on Monday @ 15:11 and has been responded to. We look forward to your response - we'd love to perform some A2 Cars magic on your A2.

Why was my post edited ? Whys it OK to slate A2 Cars but when someone from this forum who steals and breaks rare items can get away with it and other members cover him up ?

Hi Paul,

I edited the post. The deleted text refers an issue that happened some time ago now. There were two parties involved and differing versions of events..... I felt that it was in no ones interest to raise this matter again.

Cheers

Unpleasant experience with A2Cars

Just want to share my resent experience with A2Cars.
Went to this garage for cv joins and egr valve checks in 1.4 tdi (200 mile round trip for me).
After car inspection, they strongly recommended to change rocker cover gasket and tandem pump gasket. So another appointment was booked.
On my second visit rocker cover gasket was replaced and I was told that a metal gasket between the engine and tandem pump was missing. Only a rubber one was present. They called me to the workshop and showed this discovery. New metal and rubber gaskets were installed between the engine and tandem pump in front of me. Job was done and I went home.
After these the troubles began.
Next day I noticed an oil spot under a car. Went to work (26 mile trip), another spot of oil under the car. Should say I have never had an oil leak from this car before. Next morning was a fresh oil spot again. I took the engine cove off, started the engine and could see a tiny stream of oil coming between rocker cover gasket and engine top. The car lost around 300 ml of oil after 250 miles.
Another appointment at A2Cars was booked. I went to them and a rocker cover gasket leak was fixed. Went home and next morning it was a puddle of oil under a car. Did not have a choice but had to drive to work. In the evening it was a huge puddle of oil under a car again. Car lost more than 1.2-1.3 litre of oil for 64 mile trip. This time I could spot 3-4 mm wide oil stream between rocker cover and engine top.
Did not want to trust A2Cars again, so car was booked with a garage near my work for repair. Oil was topped up for a maximum point and 28 mile trip to the garage done. The mechanic replaced rocker cover gasket and told me that the oil level was below the minimum.
For last three weeks I was checking the rocker cover every 2 days and no leaks so far. Car has done ~800 miles.
But this is not the end of the troubles. Now I have spotted that the area under the tandem pump and the top of gear box is wet. I think it is a diesel from tandem pump. Car has tandem pump “038 145 209 A”. I looked online and this model should have only rubber gasket between the engine and pump body. But A2Cars installed metal and rubber gaskets at the same time. I call Tony to ask about this. He checked something and told “Yes, it is correct, it should be metal and rubber gasket together between the engine and the pump”. When I asked him to confirm this second time, he replied “I have 20 years of experience of VAG engines and I know what I am doing”.
I will be grateful if somebody from forum can let me know how many gaskets should be between AMF engine and tandem pump “038 145 209 A”

Kind regards,
Dmytro

My word I am very sorry to hear of the troubles you have encountered Dmytro when trying to do your very best for your vehicle and the inconvenience you have suffered. Sorry I cannot answer your specific question. Hope someone can provide you with clarity on what is correct on the conflicting advice you have been given.

Thanks for support Mbzpar.
I have not seen a diesel leak from the pump before, only after A2Cars touched it.

Hi Dmytro,

I am not 100% sure as I'm writing this from memory. However, unless I am mistaken, the two different gaskets are for different fuel pumps. The A2 TDI left the factory with a few different fuel pumps. Some were made by Bosch, some were made by LUK and some were made by Pierburg. The gasket you use depends on which manufacturer made the fuel pump. As far as I'm aware, you shouldn't have both gaskets fitted, nor are they interchangeable, but I am happy to be proved wrong.

Cheers,

Tom

I've had a look at the on-line parts book - https://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+a2/a2/2001-248/1/145-145003/ and this suggests the mounting gaskets changed from chassis number 8Z-3.......... This indicates the change happened sometime in 2003.
Early pumps (pre 2003) are fitted with two rubber seals - 038.109.293 and 293A
Later versions (post 2003) use the one piece metal gasket, 038.145.215

These ebay pics show the two types -

There have been a few posts from members who rebuilt their tandem pumps and the (internal) gasket sets were significantly different, depending on the make of pump. Could that be what stuck in your memory Tom.

Cheers Spike

Hi Dmytro,

As per spike's post, there are 2 variations of tandem pump mounting gaskets.

I'm not sure where you obtained the pump part No. from, but if it is from the pump itself then you should only have the 2 x rubber seals fitted.

If the part No. has been taken from doocumentation given to you by the garage you speak about in your first post, then this might be misleading considering the other concerns you raise.

I presume the work would be under warranty, so you could request the issue be resolved, but I suspect that isn't the route you are keen to take.

Sorry you have encountered these problems and hopefully you'll get everything resolved very soon.

Cheers
Jeff

Why has hotstuff been banned?

To answer your question would open up so many "cans of worms" and old subjects.

It has been discussed on here far more than it should and it is best left alone if that is ok with you.

Please trust me when I say that it was something that we tried to avoid but in the end we had no choice.

Please can we leave it like that. If you want to see more there are plenty of posts on this subject if you search on here.

If you really MUST have an explanation after this then I would be prepared to give you a very brief summary via PM.

I hope you can just trust me that it was justified unfortunately.

Jeff, Spike, Tom thanks for your replies.
Pump part number I got from the actual pump in the car (LUK 038 145 209 A). I also believe that it should be only two rubber gaskets. But “an expert” from A2Cars insists on metal and rubber one together and does not want to admit a mistake.

Obviously I am not going to use their warranty service. My only worries are that engine surface at contact point is not flat any more.
Regards,
Dmytro
