Dear all, We have a common passion...
Though, we are not homogeneous...

When mrs dieselfan is a bit annoyed with mr dieselfan... she enjoy to hold up one of his favourite pieces.... and ask loud; "have you ever used this one for anything useful"...

We are closing up to the point...
I do not smoke. Neither do mrs, nor do our youngsters

Every time I touch the ashtray, I must say one can wonder a little bit.... could not that space be used for something more useful?

Anyone that have found any smart to buy to replace the ashtray with ? ?
Or, maybe some have made something awesome ? ?
Or do you have a good idea ? ?

Cheers

And for those of us with a single DIN that stupid cubby hole. I put my tinted driving specs there (in a case) but I have to jam it in with a pen!
PS the ashtray gets used for £1 coins for the supermarket trolley.

I agree the cubby is useless, everything flies out when you brake, it never holds anything. My one gripe with a2s in general is the storage around the driver is poor, I always struggle to find a home for wallet, keys and phone etc.

The under hand brake tray does help with some extra storage space and hopefully when we get the armrest mounting sorted out even more storage available. My ash tray was used for memory stick storage and a place to keep my works access card. The little cubby holds my MP3 / SD / USB / Aux adapter and in the current climate my spare face masks.

I seem to be on my own in finding the centre storage very useful. I put the stereo fascia in it. Because it's so deep, it can be taken off thr stereo and 'hidden' in there. One of the first things I did when I got the car was take the ahstray insert out and line it with some thin carpet. Also fixed the ashtray illumination so that it lights up the centre console instead.

I fitted my heated seat rollers in the cubby and put a layer of ‘grippy’ rubber in the remaining space. It fits my phone perfectly or the iPod I use for music when it’s not in use (stuck on a magnet mount).

The ashtray holds a small leatherette bag which came with some headphones and Contains parking change coins. No rattling, no loose coins and I always (so far) manage to cobble together parking cash from the stash.

Perfect!

Parking cash? Haven't used in years, Parkman is the name of the game. Nothing comes out of pockets or bags any more, it's all wireless.

Parking time disc is in the middle, ashtray empty, cubby out. Charger in the glove box if needed.

You will have to explain that!, or me being thick? - Andy
The stereo fascia is from my Sony aftermarket head unit. Chosen because it has customisable display/button colour, to match the climate controls. Also, the steering column mounted remote, which is superb. The illuminated centre console area is simply the led from the ashtray fixed to a thin piece of wite plastic (to keep it neat), glued under the bottom of the ashtray housing. It just looks quite neat on a night. Although with the interior being mainly black, it doesn't look particularly bright.
