a2 fsi turbo

What is it like on acceleration - smooth and extra torque lower down or do you need to rev it hard still to obtain the best momentum?

the power incress is good very good,, fast accelertion due to weight. no need to put your foot down... picks up speed very quickly.

yes its a small turbo, but use been using the car with no boost control, so it will be running manifold presure, wich would be about 10 psi, no det at all
the fsi love it. in fact i belive the turbo is a little small for the 1.6. once it dosent det the pistons and rods will be fine.

I like the idea of the small turbo as they're much more fun as an everyday driver from the point of next to no lag and on it's power curve much earlier. I'm guessing It must be pushing at least another 30 - 40bhp which is plenty @ 150bhp in the super light A2.

Sounds perfect - very well done to you - I was only discussing such an upgrade a few weeks ago. Great to see it is possible.

At last some positive news on the fsi. Now engineer out the inlet manifold and the fsi might knock the tdi off it's perch. :)

the fsi turbo and 1.4 turbo that ive stated to do most like will match the mpg of the tdi, and will mot definatly be a better drive then the tdi's.
i have a plan foe the inlet probelm stay tuned. plus i will turbocharge anyone fsi or 1.4 petrol and map it to suit.

Was discussing this with the wife just now,......."wouldn't it be great to have a 60mpg A2 fsi with all the smoothness and vitality it brings,................and some" ;)

What turbo are you using for both?

A revolutionary build in my opinion. A turbo'd AUA engine producing around 140bhp really would be the best of both worlds.

It really feels like the performance side of A2 tuning is on the way up now that the cars are cheaper to buy.

Thanks for your advice the other day Clive regarding the end. It's given me the confidence to get the timing belt and oil chain done and then try having mine remapped to the 150-160 Mark and see what happens.

the 1.4s have proven in the past to be very difficult to turbocharge, mainly due to the electronic accelerator pedal. TTP and B&B were turbo'ing Lupos some time ago but the pedals were seen to be an insurmountable challenge...

There is no issue turbocharging a 1.4..
As the after market ecu can control this.

The FSI is not superlight. The 1.4 is just light.
A Swift Sport (140 bhp), that is really light.

I think you've misunderstood me. If you've previously read my take on these cars, we own both, you'll know i agree with you but we are talking about all things A2 here and the first conversion done is on the fsi. Our 1.4 petrol sport is the lightest and i love it for that getting it to double it's output from 75 to 150 bhp on it's alloy block without internal mods might be asking for trouble. Going from 110 to 150 in the fsi would be my choice or a really small turbo taking the 1.4 from 75 to 110bhp 1.4. Anyway we need to wait and see the results.

Hi all,
We can see it is technically possible to install a Turbo on our little A2. My question is : what about the legality? Do you need to put the car back through VOSA? MOT? What about the insurance?
Sorry for all the questions. I thought about something like that for a while and I was amazed to discover someone had shoehorned a 1.8 Turbo from a TT in an A2.
Thanks for the infos and good job Clive!!

Should be fine in the UK, would be a different story in Germany I would imagine.

yes, here too. My car's already >10% "altered" and at something like 50% that means a complete set of tests... Germany would require homologation paperwork (which is why it's a lot easier to plumb a complete engine in than add a turbo) and also then stuff like brakes to be uprated before allowing it on the road.
