A2 harlequin Colourstorm - A2Steve

I’m yet to finish my current project, but I have an itch that’s been there for quite some time now.

I have plans to make an A2 harlequin.

For those who don’t know what a VAG harlequin is, before the release of the mk3 polo VW created a show example that used almost al of the colours available at the time. They were so popular that they created 200 of them and have gone on to do other models since.

I’d very much like to do an A2 version but use all of the Colourstorm colours on one car.

I will need to find a reasonably priced 5 seater TDI red or blue Colourstorm.

I’ll change doors bumpers, boot plinth and bonnet and then paint the front wings in Papaya.

To do this I’ll need the help of the A2 community. I won’t do it to a yellow storm due to their rarity and I’ve only ever had a handful of storms through as breakers.

Please can I ask whether there are member members out there who have any Colourstorm panels stashed away that don’t have a purpose.

This is something I want to do personally, but also I think we need one on the A2 scene.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Steve

Lovely idea Steve, there used to be a couple of Polo Harlequins round my way. On a Storm you could even do the interior by using all the different seat colours

TBH I do think you need yellow in the mix on the exterior, or there won't be enough colours to make it work. But I totally appreciate your ethic on not using a yellow one that's still a going concern, due to the rarity factor ? As a thought though, didn't Andy @Clackers have an end of life yellow one as a breaker a while back? IIRC, @Edwrai was looking for many of the panels, might he (still) have them or any that he's taken off his cars?

I don’t believe he still has it @Clackers

Sorry Ian, I mean I won’t use a yellow storm as the base, it would Definately need yellow panels on it.

Just wondering why you would need to use a colour storm to begin with Steve, as you could use any car, even one that's in poor condition externally if you are replacing or painting the panels anyway? ?

Steve you are a total nut but i love it, what a great idea for a project. I really hope you make this happen as it would be a total show stopper imo.

I like the idea, though it's a bit unfortunate theres no good replacement for the teal panels on the Polos - orange, combined with red & yellow makes for a mix that looks quite different to the original.
Maybe those could be replaced with silver panels from the rare silver storms? (No point in beige panels due to earlier concerns for the yellow-red range I think ? )

Having tinkered with an A2 3D model from the depths of the internet recently, here's a mockup on a blue base:

The "silver" material probably needs some work but it does show the general look :)
If you have a combination in mind, I should be able to set that on the model or link you the model source.

Good luck finding the required panels either way, as it seems that orange, silver and yellow were very rare in the UK?

Wasn’t planning to paint anything other than the front wings, hence wanting to use probably a blue Colourstorm to start with.

Just looking at the panel configuration on the Polos.
Non-replaceable panels in base vehicle colour.
Rear doors, rear bumper and bonnet in the second colour.
Front doors, front bumper in the third colour.
Front wings in the fourth colour hence painting Papaya.
The rear hatches (plinth in the A2's case) are either the same as the third colour or the fourth colour. But there is the fixed bit with the badge on that will still be in the base colour. It wouldn't be so bad to spray both the fixed and plinth bits in Papaya too, would it?

I don't have any colour storm panels here, but, if there is anything I can help with...give me a shout...this is also an idea that i have had in the past too...on the plus side, if any panel gets damaged, you don't have to colour match it!!!!
Keep me posted, here to help if i can.

I think its a really good idea Steve,

Seb it looks great what you have done there, nice one fella. :)

Loving this project Steve ,I haven't got any CS panels but I do have a spare set of red CS seats for a 4 seater

If you are going Harlequin on the outside, then surely you should do the same on the inside as the seats and various trim panels were available in reds, blues etc. as well as the standard twist/platinum/soul options: -

Then you just need to Harlequin your headlining

Cheers
