A2 insurance

Firstly I'm not trying to be rude, I have to ask as im a HGV Class 1 driver what has driving a lorry got to do with your car insurance, I only pay £189 for mine so I'm asking as I'm a bit stumped with your statement. Once again not trying to offend just curious.

Ditto ! I would have thought truck drivers (imo the ultimate professionals of the road) should have put yiu guys in a position fir reduced insurance costs !

My experience has been exactly that which is why I found that statement strange, what you do for a job doesn't affect your insurance unless your using your car for work purposes, I could be wrong hence my curiosity.

No idea on truck drivers however insurers absolutely include occupation as part of the parameters for calculating premiums, regardless of if the car is used for you work. This is why you will always be asked your occupation as part of quotes.

I know it is all anecdotal however a job title change made a massive difference to my insurance a while back (changed cost by more than £100, thankfully downwards)

I can imagine it helping with the cost of insurance especially being a HGV driver.

My understanding is that this is effectively a discount for IAM members on insurance through cornmarket. Amusingly despite having passed (IAM) advanced driving a few years ago and being a local observer (and hence being required to keep my standards up) they consistently quote me utter nonsense >£1000 because they don't seem to have much data for younger drivers (I am 26 and have a clean insurance record).

Well I am pleased that this thread made me check again with them as they have offered me the most competitive quote now that I am up for renewal. Still of course I am paying a lot because of my age and having a high annual mileage and a requirement for business use on the vehicle.

Yep thats exactly how i would have thought insurers should view it. Truck drivers have to be among the safest, if not THE safest, users of the road.

I was a LGV driver and my insurance was higher than others. So when I enquired why as my driving skills were above the average driver. The answer I got was the law of averages comes into their calculations more miles driven = more chance of a collision. Changed jobs the some sort of normality returned.

What annoys me with insurance is getting knocked off my motorcycle and claiming affected my car insurance as well, although it is a separate license qualification.

That makes some sense I'd have to admit, it is a case of insurance companies look for every way possible to hike up the price, sadly.

They do, don’t they. Any excuse.

My wife’s car was stolen. I’ve never been on the insurance policy - not even as a named driver. She owned the car outright. My insurance premium went up because of our ADDRESS being higher risk apparently!

I do get frustrated by insurance companies happy to take the premium but so reluctant to pay any claims, and put up so many hurdles and hoops to jump through to settle said claim. Still we should think ourselves lucky any motor vehicle claim could put up out travel insurance and vice a versa o_O

You might be surprised by LV, give them a ring, it's all very pleasent and a good quote to boot. I was with Adrian Flux, after being horribly Messed around by Saga. Messed is spelled with a capital "M" to indicate various words unsuitable for publication. Thumbnail: had an A3 for ten years, engine blew. Premium was about £450.00. Bought an A2 as a replacement and Saga quoted me £1750.00!!!!!!!. Clean licence/record blah blah. The engine had nothing what so ever to do with insurance.

Welcome to our merry band of fellow members.
