Hi Ben

Welcome to the club and here's hoping you can find your dream A2.

As someone who has changed from the new to the old (which I think looks *much* nicer and fits the smooth lines of the A2 - but I agree it's personal taste matter :) ), changing over is easy.

The grill is fixed with 2 bolts. I needed to find longer bolts and to swap their direction, so in theory you might have to find shorter bolts or the existing bolts might have sufficient clearance.

I recall the new grill does not have real slats - i.e. no air take issues.

The job takes 30 mins. The bonnet has to be removed and I suggest it is laid upside down on a blanket, not on the drive or grass which may scratch it.

Many on this forum say 1 person can remove and fit the bonnet but if it's windy 2 is best. Also when refitting I prefer 2 people, one each side, who ensure that the lugs go into the slots and do not scratch the paint next to the rain gutter.

Front Grill and buying a new A2

yes, dealers, no.

Bret

Thanks to all for all your help, it's nice to be welcomed into a formed rather than be shunned as a new comer.

I'm surprised that the only place that you can buy a new grill is a dealer. ill e-mail my local dealer for a quote, any ideas how much this will cost?

I have found a A2 that i really like let me know what think…

you could always swap, there are those of us who have the newer grille and prefer the old..... however the car you are considering has the new grille....

Old Grill?

Oh i thought that it was the other way around, so i want an old grill..... so by options are to order an old one from a dealer or swop?

... Ebay or scrappers also have them. It's relatively simple to change, as listed above, but don't pay through the nose. Once upon a time, you could get them for cheap (£10), these days I think £25 or so is the going rate.

A "new" slatted one will cost around €120 from a dealer, the smooth, shiny ones should also be available that way.
