A2 Project Tdi Convert

Right best place to start I guess, someone will adjust if required.

My A2 has given up the ghost, 70 in the middle lane sudden loss of power and Red Warning Oil Light illumination. Oil chain failure?

Anyway before I start a full investigation. I was wondering if a transplant could be done 75 BHP to 90 BHP engine fit.

Has anyone done this or knows if it can be done and what parts may be needed apart from the obvious 90 BHP engine and Gearbox and ECU.

Sorry, I can't answer your question though I have a question. :) I'm guessing the swap to 90bhp setup will be very expensive (different turbo and block). Are you aware of the(very reasonably priced) remap available (from member depronman - Paul) for the 75bhp that releases around 105bhp? The 75bhp engine will be significantly easier to source. Best of luck with the diagnosis.

Really? Why?

Why pay out to convert to 90 BHP, because engine problems with current one.

Why continue to pay £200+ tax year on year

Looking for any advice or help to do this conversion, it's a project.

Brought out the beast to do everyday commuting now.

Presumably the main differences in the engine are in the turbo, some of valves and vacuum functions but you are transferring it wholesale so that shouldn’t be a problem. It will be the external items.
1. It should fit, as far as I know the bay is standard across the range.
2. The clutch is different - dual mass - but I think a single mass could work at the expense of comfort.
3. The electronics should be the biggest headache (other than insurance and paperwork) but presumably you could transfer this wholesale from the donor as well.
I’m sure others can be more specific but I’ve seen engine transplants where the engine, ECU, clutch, and all were transported. Everything from the ignition barrel and down was lifted out of the donor (an Impreza) and put into the VW. The only things the original vehicle did was supply input from the pedals and a connection to a fuel supply.
At least these cars are exactly the same shape going in.
I still think you’d be better selling and buying. A tdi90 but hey ho...
