A2!'s TDI Project

Ok it doesn't veer quickly or anything I mean sometime rather than going straight it decides it is gradually move ever so slightly to one side. Sometimes this has been due to pressure drop though. I forgot to add my car sits more than an inch lower at the back with no rear load than at the front.

It was last looked at during its MOT in August but I wouldn't read into that much at all. As I said it is getting looked at a garage which suspension setup is their main business on Tuesday. I 100% should buy another car for the money need to correct everything but I don't want to and if I did this car would no doubt be broken by someone.

Ahhh

In that case the clunk may be due to a broken road spring (or two!)

The veering you now describe is consistent with low tyre pressure on the side it is gently veerinbg towards. If that is to the left that could be exaggerated by the road camber too.

Good to hear you are having it checked.

I hope it is nothing serious / pricey.

I hope so too, my bigger issue was with the front of the car. Anyway we will see, hopefully the car can be sorted this year. Then money can be spent on overly priced 11+ year old nice looking plastic etc.

So still working on sourcing parts for the suspension as mentioned in my other posts.

One of my other problems was my wheel wasn't straight.

Got it back today and also had the opportunity to give it a good clean. Great work by the guys at Wheel Pro Scotland as usual.

In other news, I also have been testing LED lights of various kinds and have found the perfect sidelight ones. I can post details if anyone wants a link. In other testing I've just decided to buy an HID set for the H7 dipped beams. The ones tested were worse that my £50 H4 ones from 2015, but I'm just not spending any more for testing sake.

Sure,

I've tested many a led side light. Mostly for my other car and these are great. I like that there is a front beam as well as sides, they are rated 850 lumen which is key for safety, error free and are a true white not a blue/white so match in well for people using halogen bulbs like and osram night breaker or Philips diamond vision etc. My only caveat is they a few mm too long. Although anyone who have taken these out know the way these slide in on a stick make it very easy to use tack, clay etc.to keep it from vibrating loose.

Ebay link below, the price is slightly high for LED's but I feel these are worth it.

So I've been thinking seriously about how to do about things that need done with the car. The basic of basic list stands as : 2x wheel bearings, 2x rear coil springs, drop links, engine oil leak, intercooler (and maybe hoses), rebuild front from the plastic plate that the radiator etc is attached to out.

So from chat with Murdo and some other members, I'm as well doing most of the suspension. I have been looking down this avenue and it is very expensive when there are probably more pressing issues like the oil leaks. Also found a good mechanic recommended on here which I am going to see when I do the full switch but I genuinely don't trust driving the car that far away to get sorted. See video below (P.S. excuse the Darth Vader like sounds, I had the mic very very close to my mouth):

Had a decibel read out on my phone. While not that accurate it will give a visual representation of the difference.
This was only up to about 50mph but you can imagine how terrible this is on the motorway (can't even hear the radio)

So this should be getting fix today and as I said some other big things need sorted and then I can get around to more finer aspect's of the car.

In other news, I bought VCDS and scanned the car and to my surprise there was no real issues. I had ones in the AC which are expected as bits are missing when the radiator was hit, and some with the alarm which I would have guessed as my alarm doesn't work. Other than that there was only one with a brake switch which seems common and a DIY job.

I also got to reprogram one of my keys. No matter what I tried with the manual way, it just wasn't syncing like the other one did.

I also decided to fit my LED H3 bulbs from night eye. These should not have the issue I had with the H7 nigh eye bulbs as there is no front reflector type part on the main beams.

So here are some pics of changing them over. I'm doing this just because for some reason they thought it was a good idea to put two spades on the end instead of one. So these bulbs weren't as advertise as plug and play really but here's how to fix it if you are buying them.

So as you can see in the picture a normal H3 bulb just has a positive and grounds it's self to the bulbs housing.
For this type of bulb, make a wire with a female and male spade on either end.
Remove the black headlight leveller(twist anti clock wise and remove green ball joint from groove), this is optional but helps with access.
Wiggle out the female spade with brown wire attached.
Use a flat blade screwdriver or such to widen the gap.
Put your new wire (male side) in-between the widened clip when putting back.
Put the leveller back if taken out (push into groove from the top).
Plug the other side with the female connector to the black spade on the bulb.

Will be making a video tutorial for replacing the leveller on my new YouTube page/website. I will do the same from now on with all DIY type things I try on my A2, as I find videos really help when trying to do things.

Thanks for reading :)

That's the video up on YouTube

The other video will be shot with a proper camera equipment. I was in a rush and filmed this on a cheap android phone.
