A2 Serious water leak HELP!!

Dear all,

New to the forum so here goes.

We have a 2002 A2 1.4 TDi (No sunroof). The car has a serious water leak. The rear boot tray has been filling up with water around the battery section at one time the water was 2-3inches deep!!!, I must stress the water is clean so it is definitely not coming up from underneath the car!. The level of moisture in the car is now so great that the rear seats are soaked and have been removed to dry, the floor carpet up to the back of the front seats is also damp and so are the front and rear seat belts.

We have checked the rear window seal and the passenger rear windows there is no sign of a leak or water damage to the interior fabric, the leak is a real mystery.

With it being winter the car still has so much moisture on the inside that the morning frost can be found on both sides of the window glass further adding to the problem.

Have any fellow A2 owners had a similar problem, as we need all the help we can get.

Cheers

Roy

Thanks for the link spike, looks like the same problem we have will check the rear lights, and go from there

A2 serious water leak

I should have joined up a year ago when mine started doing the same thing - at least now I can add my experience though.

Audi had their chance to look at it twice, but yesterday when they brought it back late - having not looked at the water leak yet - was their last: I spent today tking it apart and putting it back together again.

The culprit in my case was the vent below the driver side rear light cluster. The top edge had come unclipped or had never been clipped in properly, so water was leaking in. The job does require removal of the rear bumper - which means taking both the wheels off to get the wheel arch trims off so you can get to all the fastening screws (though you can avoid stripping the boot). Nightmare job unless it is nice and sunny or you are indoors. Let's hope it stays clipped - no more scraping ice off the inside of the windscreen!
