A2 Stereo Replacement

At the moment I have the radio cassette stereo in my A2, but would prefer the Audi Concert cd player.
What version fits the A2 as I believe that not all fit?

Thanks

I think it depends on the age of your car, as later cars have a different system. If you get the wrong one it works, but may not light up correctly and will power off after 1 hour.

I'm sure you will get the full answer shortly.

I've just been listening to Radio 2, about the impending switch off of analogue radio in 3 years time!

If this happens all FM radio will need raplacement or possible some kind of add on DAB unit. It might be worth bearing this in mind before buying a new FM radio.

The concert Cd type units have been selling for around £150, so it might also be worth keeping what you have and installing an Ipod adapter, even if you have to buy an ipod.

thanks for the info, i think you can buy DAB receivers at the mo that go in the window to pick up the signal......
would really like the cd player, but as you said, if analogue is at its end, it is something to think about

Don't bother with DAB. Crap sound quality and it will never take over from FM, so don't worry about FM being phased out - it will never happen. Just buy yourself a good FM head unit. Becker do some single slot units with blue tooth for your phone plus iPod compatibility and sat nav too. I am sure other manufacturers do the same.

FM *will* die. As soon as someone has worked out which standard will replace it - DVB-R, DAB2 or something else - it will be killed. Stupid bit is that the rest of Europe hasn't decided which way to go yet. The standard may also be forced by someone like the UK government saying "we want DAB2 and we're going to implement it!". And the Digital Economy Bill saying it will be turned off in 2013.

I don't see the point in CD players in cars. Use a USB stick and MP3 if you don't care too much about quality and FLAC if you do.

Just wait until next time you have a slightly weak signal - with FM, this was not a problem, but with DAB, you'll get garbage out of the speakers!

Bizzarely, big cities are amongst the worst places for reception - the tall buildings make for poor signal strength.

Yes, FM will die in time, in the same way as analogue TV is doing, but are you really telling me that digital TV quality is as good or better than analogue? Have you seen the blockiness on complex scenes? You didn't get this on the old broadcasts.

Why do you think that HD is so eagerly awaited now - it's because they downgraded the picture, got us all used to it and then are offering a better, newer alternative that is only slightly better than the old stuff!!!

Progress - yeah right!

Cheers,

Mike
