Somebody tell me I'm not mad! Some time ago somebody bumped into the back of my A2 at a junction. I hopped out to have a look at the damage. What I saw on my car was a bumper which when I looked at it was clearly dented, which then slowly morphed/popped back into shape before my eyes, to the point that it looks exactly the same as before. The whole thing was so surprising that I'm half wondering if I've done an "Ally McBeal" and imagined it all; although I'm kind of sure I didn't, I sure would appreciate some back up on that.

Bumpers are designed so that for an impact under 5mph no visible damage should be seen. In particular if there is any foam behind the bumper fascia then this help the fascia recover back to it's original shape.

Yes zoda, Will is right. Most new cars have bumpers spec'ed at 5mph. But it only applies to impact at a wide surface area. Its not going to 'heal' if you have sharp objects hitting it!

I 'touched' a sign post with my A2's back. Its one of those rough surface sign post (to stop posters) and it left some spike marks on it... lucky its not very visible.
