Chat A2 that's had a hard life!

Hello All,

I find myself an A2 owner quite by accident. A black 1.4TDi SE was advertised with osr quarter damage (CAT C insurance write off) going very cheap indeed and very near my house. As I didn't have a car at the time and budget was an issue I went along and ended up buying it. The damage is very limited - a small tear is the best way I can describe it - I've tried to attach a picture if you'd like to see. I've patched it up with tape and put a light fitting in, got the VIC check and log book etc etc and am now driving it - it is being aluminium welded and then repaired by a body shop next week.

It has done 117k and had Audi stamps to 72k in 2009 - after 72k there was a change of owner and the 2nd person has just used it and used it until the accident. (there's no way I would have bought the car if it hadn't had the early main dealer history). I have begun a 'rescue' programme for the poor little thing. So far I have had:

- Cam belt and water pump.
- Discs and Pads
- Rear Shoes and wheel cylinders. Rear wheel bearing/hubs
- Oil, Air, Fuel, Cabin Filters and oil change.
- 2nd oil change after I had driven a few hundred miles.
- Alternator etc drive belt.

The patient has responded well and I have to say I'm very impressed with it as a machine - I never knew about them and all the aluminium construction and such. I can definitely see why they have a following!

If anyone can tell me anything else I should check as a preventative / remedial measure in trying to get the car back to a well maintained status, I would be most grateful.

There are a couple of specific niggles ongoing but I'll post them in the maintenance section.

So, it looks like I'll be keeping it and joining the club!

Best wishes
Phil
:)

Congratulations on your purchase , its great to see these cars being brought back to health.

The damage to the aluminium is not structural in that area.

There is also an aluminium member underneath the plastic bumper that takes any impact, this MIGHT be damaged, but again pictures posted here would enable people to comment.
