My dad is a driving instructor and has just taken delivery of his new Fiesta Zetec TDCi. I drove it last week and thought I'd compare it's performance to the A2. Both use a three cylinder 1.4 diesel producing 75 bhp (the Ford one being from the Citroen, Peugeot group). The main thing I noticed was the Fiesta doesn't sound as much like a diesel as the A2 does. It's acceleration isn't as good, due to torque of about 115 compared to 144 in the A2 and the Ford has no noticeable turbo kick making it difficult to locate the peak torque zone (I've found it to be 2,500-3,000 revs in the A2). It feels very sluggish especially when accelerating in third, it is also noisier when crusing in 5th. The Fiesta has plenty of room for four, but you can still tell the Audi is a quality vehicle particularly in terms of interior finish and the weight of the doors, but it does cost almost twice as much!

I've read the larger TDCi (130bhp) is the best. Would be nice in a Fiesta too!

Steve - 2002 1.4SE petrol, Silver, black/black interior, Then an identical replacement 2003 A2. Now a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T-Spirit

I don't think the larger engine will fit - no doubt Ford will try sooner or later!

My experience of the 130TDCI is disappointing, Plenty of power if you rev it but torque seems low - I prefer the 115 version. Oddly enough Diesel Car had the same oopinion - they chipped a 130 which had over 140BHP BEFORE they started but was way down on torque.

2002 1.4 Petrol SE, silver with climate control.
Why are NEARLY all the A2s in Lichfield are silver ? ? ?
