The bearing carrier (or ‘steering knuckle’, if you’d rather) has a 72mm bore into which the bearing is seated. An 85mm tool will not fit through a 72mm hole, meaning it cannot be used to change the A2’s bearings.I see these kits pop up from time to time, will the 85mm version work, or do you have to stick to the 72mm?
I wonder how much wheel bearing change should cost? CheersIf you can't borrow one locally this is cheaper than paying labour, the job is done right and you have it for when the other side fails; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285105113890?hash=item426196cb22:g:XvIAAOSwMSljvd4y&amdata=enc:AQAHAAAA8GGwL/BvSzuAl+990i+O4eBfls27JHUoLocaB4dGWRhS8aaGYApKiuEpEYWBHv1f0ESQiBQDWUraXrEpgxam3RnhZyquqqdFEDgObOD7N72eBvjj4eYgW6XmJ/GTwSUcvd22utYzQ1E4Iqna6Bo7VrXXth6wxh3BSF4qI/gDnffRXk0nCRt06BuHWku1hCpFjoE35h/1HKg92bMZQZ2NMhTFLeuDHRg/A5EukJWkiCLPZRmNbLmvCFNY8h6o79vSnCvVssPtkiltzmyZkQsKpsKCLgK1IsrF7nZNfA8pa1sphzOhHgL5rtt6J73gsTSEaA==|tkp:Bk9SR7ThudbYYQ
I don't know but if you assume £50 per hour for labour compared to the price of the tool I can't see how this can be done in a fraction over 1 hour. That is after you have found a garage that has the tool.I wonder how much wheel bearing change should cost? Cheers
So DIY guys with basic knowledge, like oil change etc., shouldn't even try doing that job, even with the tools acquired? I hope this won't be an issue for a long time, I've been dealing with enough as it is, but it makes me wonder how'd I deal with it.master technician who admitted it was a time consuming job.

I think it is one of these kits.I'm looking at this kit too at the moment.
I'll be renewing a lot of the front end parts in the coming couple of weeks hopefully.
I've just taken delivery of shockers all round, disc, pads drums etc.
Will be having a look at bushes etc and have a wheel bearing that's shot, so will be needing something for that.
I have got my hands on one of these, in anticipation,

Have you seen this video, he uses one of those kits... looks OK to me (from 4.00 on).

I had a problem with seized front splash guards on a MK2 golf. Had to pull the flange to drill and coil the threads. Expected the same with the A2 so bought the tool. However got the screws with a cold chisel, tool therefore not used as yet.How come it's never been used, shame it's sat there, is it looking for a new home?![]()
