Hi
we are new to A2oc
we have a 2004 A2 that had an intermittent starting fault so had new battery fitted and a new starter motor but still nothing happens when you turn the key
no clicking or any sound at all
Any advice would be much appreciated
Many thanks

Earth point behind passenger head light
Take it off and clean it even if it looks clean also big the cable a good pull as they sometimes fail under the heat shrink sleeving
Also check the other end of the cable where it meets the engine

This is 95% of the cause
Report back if this doesn’t work
To remove headlight there are only 2 two tor’s head screws to undo

Main earth strap below / behind the left headlight is probably faulty. Try connecting a jump lead between say the wiper motor and the engine block, if it now starts then the problem is the earth to the engine. Either clean / replace it or run a new one between the chassis and the engine block. Some threads on here about this.

No doubt!
Theres no question that the earth is best going direct to starter but its a bit awkward to remove/replace existing one! I found engine mount to drive belt tensioner to work perfectly and dead easy to fit too! (Tdi Amf)
Mine was a non start too, this really should be a essential for all owners thou before failure!

If the earth doesn't solve the issue, the ignition barrel might be the issue (see link below). But most of the time, it's probably the earth.
