Aaahhhh!! Central Locking Failure....aaaahhhh

Ok, so the car hasn't been used at all in the last 5 1/2 weeks. The battery was completely flat as the flashers go off by themselves regularly. We jump-started the car fine, (although the handbrake was stuck), but I have zero central locking, zero boot lid, zero electric windows, zero internal lights. I've looked at the fuses, particularly No42 but they all look fine.

Is it likely that something else happens when the car sits for a while with no charge?

I know, I should have checked it earlier, but I really need to get to work tomorrow and this is a last minute nightmare!!!!

As an aside, the manual boot release worked fine the forst time, but feels like it has come away and is useless now. Also the rear doors don't open at all, doesn't seem safe if there's a power failure. Finally, the front passenger door will not lock at all so is left available to a chancer.

Any help please...

If the battery is now fully charged, try disconnecting it for 10 min or so to see if this resets everything. It's worked for other club members in the past

Cheers Spike

Thanks Spike, gave it a try, but no luck, still no interior lights, central locking fuel cap etc. I did work out how to lock the passenger door though - interior locking button on the drivers door sorted it.

Any other suggestions?

I'm going to try to get to the manual fuel release by clambering over the rear seats and dropping the seat back down, but it's dark outside...

dont know how this fits, but, we recently changed our battery in our keyfob. It then did not seem to open the central locking (or close it).

I then put the key into the ignition and started the car. The key light came on (as if it was talking to the key?) and then after turning the ignition off, the central locking worked fine.

Odd, but that's what happened!

There is some sort of time limit for the battery change after which you often need to re-pair the keys using this procedure - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showpost.php?p=26896&postcount=2

Ok, still no luck, although I did manage to manually open the fuel cap, so I have £5 of diesel in her now. I hope in a minute she will start and then at least I'll not have to suffer the train...

Sarge, I'll try the comfort unit this 'avo, thanks for that...more later

Still the same. Is there any chance this might be related to the date and time showing 01/01/1999?

Is there a circuit breaker that needs re-setting?

CCU now in Germany with Lau; hoping for the spare unit to come my way, but not heard anything yet...

Just saw this posting today - a similar thing happened to us last week. The battery went flat, had to climb into the back to open the tailgate using the pull-cord by the rear windscreen to gain access to the battery in the boot.

After jump starting the car the CCU did not function as normal. Checked fuses etc, and in desperation I unplugged the CCU from the footwell, and upon plugging it back to the wiring harness it all came back to life:)

It has been a week now and it is still all good. So worth unplugging the CCU to reset it proper. Got a spare CCU now as a backup just in case as it does seem like a troublesome part afterall judging from the numerous posts concerning the CCU on here.

I had been advised about removing the CCU and then putting it back in. I tried that a couple of times, once leaving it for 10mins, and again overnight. I was told to replace the large black plug last. On both occasions the unit still failed to work, bummer!

Lau has the unit and I'm hoping to get it back soon. I'm getting tired of climbing over all the seats to manually release the fuel cap - a real pain!

I have to say, I'm very worried about having either of my children in the back seats now that I've discovered there's no way to open the doors if the electrics go down. It seems to me a huge over-sight on safety. I dread to think what would happen in an accident if the elcrics failed and I had to get them out quickly...thoughts?
