Accelerator pedal

Hi all, my new (to me) 1.4 petrol has a lot of 'play' in the accelerator pedal. That is, I need to press it in about 2 inches before the car starts to move. This is making hill starts a bit tricky for me, as I'm used to my girlfriends VW Polo. On her car, the car starts to move as soon as you touch the pedal. Any ideas on how I can fix this, or is it standard on all A2s? Thanks.

Hi
I'm almost certain all A2's have an electronic throttle pedal which is a self contained unit with no mechanical adjustments. Pedal movement provides a varying voltage signal to the engine management system which decides on the fuelling required. The high degree of pedal travel before anything happens could be caused by a faulty pedal but may also be related to problems several 'petrol' owners have reported recently, relating to poor throttle response, particularly when the air con is switched on. See link attached.

Thanks Spike. Acceleration is fine once the throttle engages, in fact my focus-driving sister couldn't believe how fast for a 1.4. It's not a big problem, guess I'll just have to get used to it!
