Additive to Cure Piston Slap

Try the Slick50 may at least make it quieter, it only cost about £20. Any good engine shop is capable of a rebore. The same basic block is used in multiple VW group cars so there will be shops very capable. Do not know the area but a quick Google came up with Lancaster Engines and loads more. Not a recommendation from me just giving an example. No harm in phoning a few to get a rough idea of the price.
Yep!

Unless you just wanted to promote the Slick50, this discussion is going full circle. My understanding has always been that the 1.4 petrol engines in the A2 have an aluminium block with bores that are nicasil plated, in addition to which the crank distorts if removed. Reboring is not practical, which explains why these engines aren't available rebuilt.

I'd go with the later pistons, as suggested by @RAB
The combination of the slightly larger diameter, new rings, and absence of the wear in your originals sounds like at least half way to an (impossible) rebore. Ask your our engine co to check the big ends while they're out.
Mac.

Well, VAG do mention rework is possible acccording to SSP247:

But it might not be fun work as one needs to take precautions as one is not allowed to undo the main bearings .

On many engines after 200 000km the valve stem seals are hard and leak (more so on petrol engines),so if using oil and smoking when pulling away after 30 second idle seals are suspect ,this can be done with head inplace , If you have cylinder leakage either new rings (seldom works 100 %) or new pistons with rings and honing of bore , this often works 99% . otherwise rebore and oversized pistons and then you should remove engine and go for full rebuild ,some of the engines are available for really cheap prices in Germany (new units )The problem with additives is they can cause poor oil flow and cause lifters to jack .Cheers Alan

The 1.4 petrol engine often has piston slap when cold ,this can be quite loud . If it is noisy when hot you need to determine if it is from the top or bottom or middle or somewhere else . I suspect the lifters or bearings causing oil pressure drop this would in turn make the lifters noisy , so run engine hot and check oil pressure with gauge ,if the pressure is under 1 bar at idle and noisy take rpm to 1300rpm and look at pressure .
Let me know what you observe .
Cheers Alan

Same with the 1.2Tdi, although I think it's a problem with the block distorting rather than the crank.

nalaver, Forgot about your offer to fix our A2 Piston Slap in Switzerland. I should have thought to bring the A2 with us when we flew out end of January to spend a few nights in Kandersteg for our Daughters 30th Birthday ! Do you think SWISS would have accepted the A2 as Sports Equipment and carried it Free like they do with our Skis Equipment ?

Well not sure if that would have worked ,,,,,

As Joga indicated rebores are feasible but will be tricky. More info from the workshop manual in this old post - https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/additive-to-cure-piston-slap.39640/post-352955

Hi ,not sure but suspect 1.4 petrol has steel sleeve and 1.6 fsi has coating (ceramic or similar ) some of the VW engine blocks have virtually no wear after 300000 km ,yet the pistons especially at skirts are worn to 0.12 clearance so sometimes a hone and new pistons is as good as new....

Hi ,I am living close to the lake about 8km from Zurich center
Ah. We flew SWISS from Manchester to Zurich then Zurich to Geneva. Why ? Because for reasons unexplained it was a lot cheaper to do that this time than just flying Manchester to Zurich ! We have sometimes found it is cheaper to book Manchester - Basel than just Manchester - Zurich. Can’t explain that either. You still go on the same flight from Manchester to Zurich with a Train Ticket from Zurich to Basel included in the Air Fare. You don’t even have to get on the Train to Basel. Just collect your Baggage ( Skis ) at Zurich Airport and go wherever you want.
