Hi guys,

Recently I keep seeing people saying they are having the above changed on there cars and I’ve never heard of this before... my car has done a very easy 143k do I need to look at getting the above done?

TIA

Hi Nathan

It would be advisable as no doubt your chain and tensioner will be the original.I have just had mine changed on the tdi 90 @ 164,000 and was very worn, think I was lucky. There have been a number of people now that haven't been so lucky and has coursed total engine destruction, there are no fixed intervals for this replacement, but it has been advised on here that any tdi over 100,000 miles should have it changed

Thanks
Pete

Hi Nathan, I started off all this advice, please see thread.

Sarge

It makes sense to do it at the same time as the cam belt (although I appreciate this advice is included in Sarge's post). I got mine done at the sometime as the cam belt and the dual-mass flywheel (only applies to the TDi 90), and the engine vibration practically disappeared. It made a huge positive difference to the smooth running of the car. Worthwhile, but not cheap.

mine is at 143k and I just had mine done at the same time as the cambelt. My mechanic was skeptical saying it didn't need doing, however was surprised to see that one if the guides was badly worn and he said it was well worth doing

I was told by an Audi dealer that it wasn't necessary, but somewhere on this forum it was strongly suggested that I have it done (>240,000 miles) so it's just been done by Rob and Marcus at WOM Automotive. In fact mine wasn't too bad, but Rob showed me one that had come off an A2 which had only done 145,000 miles and was seriously worn. Not cheap, but surely better than a trashed engine.
