Advice on cambelt quote

hi guys,

my A2 needs a cambelt & waterpump change and also has dodgy temperature sender

I've been quoted by an independant garage

£332 plus vat for the cambelt/waterpump/relay roller
£53 plus vat for the temperature sender

to £385 plus vat = £442 !

I think this is a bit steep considering I could get cambelt done at Stafford Audi for £285inc vat. Albeit this wont include waterpump.

Appreciate any thoughts, and or recommendations for any garages in and around North London / Herts

Cheers

Stoke sells the cambelt kit from £88.40 to £115.71 depending on engine. Add a water pump, my memory says ~£40 so I they are quoting you on 3hr labour for the cambelt at ~£60/hr +vat? Sounds alright to me, not sure what others think. My cambelt was done with clutch so can't compare the quotes.

Russell Automotive Centre in Kingsbury is now my go-to place for service. Steve himself is a nice honest guy and their work is very professional. They won gold independent service at ADI last year so not just my word. You can give them a call, say A2OC recommended, there should be a 10% discount on labour.

Paid £311.00 all in
last week for cambelt and waterpump replacement!!
Local vag specialist recommended by wifes audi owning friend.
Will be using from now on:):):)

Chris, thanks for that link, I'm not aware of that at all!

Just got my old bills, water pump (for 1.4 petrol) was £30.55 parts only. Cambelt kit was about the same as Stoke Audi parts.

I just had an 'interim' service at local independent, it was 114. Which was oil service, sump plug, filter and screen wash (1.99). If Audi dealer does it for £99 it's a steal!

And £49 for brake fluid is not too bad, I had it done for about £33 last year with a Major service for £350 including the brake fluid service as mentioned, air-con service (~£64), a new wiper, new pollen filter. So yes, a dealer main service for £199 is not bad at all!

Agreed! We're lucky enough to have a franchised dealer and an approved repairer within spitting distance in Ayrshire - and theres a bit of 'anything they can do' going on - which is great for the customer. My mates A4 has just had an interim service for £80 + VAT. :D
I dont know how long they can sustain this, but i hope it continues ad infinitum. Chris is right about remaining within the dealer network if possible, I think your recourse is stronger if anything goes wrong.

(A welcome back to ULP as well, you've been missed around these here parts! Hope all is well) :D

ok, just spoke to the original indy garage and told them about Stafford Audi's price and they dropped £70 and quoted £370 for cambelt, relay roller, waterpump and temp sender

sorted !

It pays to shop around and then barter

Hi,
I had a cambelt rollers and water pump replaced last month for £275 at our local indy Audi specialist John Austin - Colchester.

Did you barter with them or is that a fixed price? would that be the same price at all Audi main dealers?

4 Rings Ltd

Just had my Cam Belt/Water Pump replacement carried out by 4 Rings Ltd, a Dartford,Kent mobile Audi specialist.
I can't speak too highly of them. The price was exceptionally fair, the parts all genuine Audi and the work carried out by Dean who did an engine diagnostic for me with his laptop at the same time.
He also checked a roll bar bush which a main dealer had previously flagged up as corroding and said it was absolutely fine. The car sailed through its MOT a few days later.
Best of all, 4 Rings come to you so you can still have a productive day's work yourself. My two nearest dealers might have swish premises but they are in the middle of nowhere.
Google 4rings.co.uk and you'll find them.
Courteous communication by email and phone too.

I did cam belt, water pump, new MoT and 40,000 mile service last month. An excellent job done by my local garage in Shaftesbury, Dorset - Ian Hull Car Maintenance - for £661 including VAT. My local Audi Dealership quoted almost exactly twice that.

Cambelt, water pump and service

Thats Ada booked into my local indy in Ayr (Ingram) for some TLC before the journey south to ADI. £440 inc. VAT for cambelt change including waterpump and a variable service. Not bad methinks, and I have always had great service from them which is more important to me than cost. :D
