Advice on success of Pure Highway 600

Greetings fellow enthusiasts,

I have been seriously contemplating the Pure Highway 600 when it is released in April as a mechanism to a) go digital and retain the stock stereo look, b) stream music via bluetooth and c) have hands free mobile communication in the car.

It is a simple wireless system that streams the digital radio network via FM frequency, unless using aux. The kit appears to do all the things I want for a reasonable sum. The interface controller doesn't look too bad either IMHO. Details here: http://www.pure.com/car-audio/products/highway-600

The reason for the post is that I have now come across a high level installation video; here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyR70WVNhGk

With an aluminium A2 and OSS, can anyone advise if I am likely to find any opportunities to anchor the magnetic grounding tail in the roof?

Thanks in advance.

Darren

Hi Darren,

How about buying a strong magnet and placing it under the roof and then place the magnetic mount directly above it?

You might need to drop the headlining a little, but it would probably work ok?

Hi,

It looks like the antennas attaches to the glass so you would be ok there.

Hi Darren

It seems to me from the video clip that the antenna itself has a magnet built into is - if that's the case this unit must be attached to the roof skin under the head-liner. The roof then acts as a ground plane for the antenna. Of course as you know, aluminium is non-magnetic so it's not going to work unfortunately.
You may be able to modify the antenna to ground it on the body by screwing it in. I would also install the unit in a more permanent fashion taking power from alternative sources thus eliminating the USB adapter and cabling. Also, the mic would need to be better hidden. Drop by when you get a chance and I can offer some advice.

Oops, sorry, just had another quick look at the video - as Steve says, the antenna is fixed to the glass but the antenna ground is completed by a magnetic connection to the roof skin. I think permanently fixing the ground to the car frame would be the way to go.

Sorry for my bad.

Cheers Tony; makes sense and no problem. The main control unit is battery operated, the power cable is only used if opting to wire the Pure system directly to the head unit using an aux port. If opting to transmit over an FM frequency, you don't need it; as far as I understand it.
