Evening all,

After some advice as never too sure about this sort of stuff!!

I have 3rd party gendan kkl cable which is currently working OK with windows 10 on my work laptop and vcds lite.

I'd like to get access to things like switching airbag lights off abs bleed procedures, setting beeps for rear pdc, resr running webastos etc

1. Should I pay £99 to register my copy of lite
2. Buy a 3 vin cable and fet full vcds for £199

Q1 Is there any difference between the two, registered lite and full vcds?

Q2 will registered vcds lite mean just one vin?

Thanks!!

As far as VAG cars of a similar vintage to the A2 are concerned, there is no, practical, advantage to posh VCDS compared to $99 lite,in my opinion.
If you think you might get through more than two laptops, then the registration by cable, with the posh version may suit.

If you buy the $99 license, Ross-Tech allow you $99 credit if you subsequently go for the full version.

Cables with full access are available for around £40 from FB marketplace but I haven't tried one yet
I be very surprised if they were not hacked clones.
If so, they'll work with a version of VCDS, that is, (probably), not genuine. Any attempt to update to latest version will then break it, never to work again.
Probably install unwanted spy ware too.
Pays yer money etc ...

Certainly possible, but the A2 only needs the very basic version so that's not a problem. I would use it on a laptop purely for vcds and never connect to the Internet so in theory should have no problems. Think they are stared as good until 2016. You can even buy it on a tablet ready to go suitable for more or less up to present for £120

None of them are genuine.
Only versions bought from Ross-Tech, or there official distributors, are genuine.
Ross-Tech were helpful in giving us the basis of the A2OC FSI label file. They provide good support to genuine users.
Around £75 for genuine Lite seems fair to me.
I bought my copy of Lite in 2017, when I got my TT. Since then, I and quite a few other Audi owners have had very good value out of it.
Personally, I would not, knowingly, support those who steal Intellectual Property for financial gain.

Just to be clear then if i did register lite and use my 3rd party cable I can webasto test and do some basic settings etc, stuff i can't do unregistered?

I think that’s the same brand of cable that I’ve got. As Mac says, at first you should be ok with that and unregistered VCDS Lite. You’ll need to register it though if you want to monitor parameters in all but the first few data blocks though. Also I think getting this cable to work is something of a black art when it comes to installing the device driver. I eventually got it working after some trial and error on my laptop, however I was trying to help out Ami the other day by installing it on one of his laptops and just couldn’t get the driver to work, no idea why. Good luck 🤞

I think Edd has installed the Ross-Tech drivers, and free Lite is working OK.
