Advice re fitting a reversing camera

Hi all

Due to my recent baby brain situation (have a 3 week old!) I seem to have lost any dubious ability I had to drive and have recently twice managed to reverse the car into inaminate objects!

Hubby has therefore decided there is no alternative but to fit a reversing camera for me and has purchased a ripspeed dvd 733b head unit and camera. Should also solve our dodgy speaker issue!

Hubby intends to fit it himself. Has anyone any advice re routing the cable from the front to the back and positioning the camera on the back of the car? Any advice from anyone has done it/photos gratefully received!

Thanks

Lisa

Camera is a bit overkill - a simple £50 Dolphin PDC kit would have sufficed I'd have thought.

As to cable routing, you'll have to run it down under the sill plastics, which means removing the boot interior side trim, rear sill trim, B pillar trim and front sill trim.

Up to you, but it's a heck of a job and not for the faint of heart!

Cheers,

Mike

I just had a pioneer Bluetooth unit with reversing camera outlet I’ve not bought a camera but looking for advise what one to pick any ideas anyone

I did the cable run that Mike mentions above. From rear view mirror to boot (it’s attached to the rear seat headrest. Not toooo bad - a bit hairy at moments and your car looks like it’s exploded! - but doable.

No advice on a rear view camera I’m afraid. Mine came with the kit and is... okay.

Ideally I think a camera needs to be mounted on the back tailgate - either right in the window or above the number plate - and the wiring from the body onto the tailgate is a challenge I haven’t overcome yet. It crosses the weather seal and a very narrow twisty conduit which I’m not brave enough to dismantle.

Good luck.

Yes sounds a nightmare I’ll get the hi Fi installer to try and come up with a solution just got the car in Feb love it got alloys refurbed black gloss with AUDI chrome inserts. Looks smart so don’t want to reverse into something the car I had before was a smart got 2 half a car really . Now got a full car feels strange .

I did a reverse camera install the other week, by putting it next to the boot release. A bit of wiring and faff, the only bit thats not ideal is that the wire is visible when the boot is open. But you have to really look to spot it. Everything else is hidden, with the reverse interrupt take from the rear left cluster. Photo of the dash was just to check it all worked, since tidied up... Camera was only £8 from eBay and works really well.

What camera did you use?
We did this job, but removed the headlining and ran the cable through the proper rubber hinge grommet to the tailgate. Nothing can be seen and it works great with the double DIN Android unit. We also picked up the reverse signal from the near side rear light.

How did you take the wire inside the car? Did you go through the rubber grommet like above?

I used this camera. Pretty similar to the vast array that are available, but was good because of the amount of movement offered means its possible to position it exactly where you'd like.

In terms of getting the wiring inboard, I did a bit of a cheat and just lifted the boot seal and threaded it under it and re-seated it. As I say, you have to look for it to notice it... Would still like to embed it a bit better.
