Air Con Diagnosis help!

I would quite like my AC working in this weather, is it a DIY job or am I better off just biting bullet and going to a VAG Garage?

I appreciate that you want to get your air conditioning working (I certainly wouldn't be without mine), but before you seek professional help there are a few simple things you can do yourself. The first is to remove the bonnet, and confirm that the aircon itself is working, and that the pipes are indeed getting cold to the touch as far as the bulkhead when the engine is running. That will support the earlier diagnosis, that the temperature flap is not moving.

More often than not, when the temperature flap appears unresponsive, it can be coaxed back into life by repeatedly alternating the 'Lo' and 'Hi' temperature settings - these are specific settings at either end of the temperature scale, rather than general descriptions of temperatures that might be thought hot or cold. Cycle the temperature settings a few times each time you use the car, and there's a fair chance the flap will at some point recover the full movement. I'd be leaving the temperature setting at 'Lo' when I'm driving around, as the general movement might well help things along.

By now, I expect that you've seen what advice the forum has to offer on refitting the V68 flap, at least to the point of knowing whether it's a job you feel confident taking on yourself. If you prefer to get professional help, you need to find an independent VAG specialist who understands and is happy to work with the A2. Recent reports from forum members suggest that Vass of Bath https://www.vassofbath.co.uk/ provide exceptional service and their charges are very reasonable. In your position, I'd be speaking to them.

I leave my climate control unit set on 'Auto' all year round. I never use the 'Econ' button. It seems to make little difference to my fuel consumption, but makes for a comfortable environment inside the car, regardless of the weather outside.

Thanks for this, super detailed! Will have a go at it all.

Also thanks for the recommendation about VASS they're not a million miles away from me!

In 9 years of ownership I have never experienced a problem with the Climate Control on the car until today when hot air continuously blows out all the vents. I feared I had the dreaded stuck flap control motor. I had of course read about others experiences with this, so tried cycling the temp up and down from max to min but so far to no affect.
I plugged in my simple scanner and came up with error code 01271 which confirms my fear of the V68 flap motor.
I have also read that a full VCDS can allow cycling of the motor to free it up. Is this different from doing it manually with the buttons?
I have always kept the CC on Auto.
Any recommendations before I consider trying to replace the motor!

If it is the first time then i expect it'll work fine tomorrow, tended to be intermittent for me for some time before I gave up on it and sold the car :) 😀

If you feel upto replacing V68 yourself, I'd do that. There's a problem there, and if cycling the flap fixes it, it probably won't stay fixed, and will fail on the hottest day of the year, (probably).
Mac.

Looking at availability of replacement V68 I came across this on Amazon. Compatibility seems correct but no knowledge of quality. Has anybody else used them?

New genuine ones from Audi are now £200 Geoff. When you look at them I can't fathom out why they cost so much to be honest. I have it on good authority that the Mahle ones are cheap for a reason but its entirely up to you as to what you buy. They old ones tend to last 18+ years so I played safe and bought a genuine one.

Interesting observation on Mahle as I believe they are listed as an OEM supplier a German company based in Stuttgart
