Air Conditioning 01271 - Positioning Motor for Temperature Flap (V68)

Hi bret sorry with new site software I missed your reply. Great info and something I've not seen before.

Know of any how tos any where on this exercise ?

Thanks

I,ve just phoned my local Audi dealer parts dept and brand new temperature control flap motor is £133....worth trying the rotational method.

Just returned from WOM....big thankyou to Marcus and Rob for their help in replacing the temp motor...made it look easy which it is not.

The last one is of the motor housing opened up. The silver metal circle (which separates into two contact parts), inside the green coloured plastic disc, may be the wear item which degrades and prevents it operating correctly.

Bringing this thread back, I’m exercising with hi-low temperature & fan speed with no avail.

Would you kindly explain location & position you took picture to guide me in right direction please.
What did you buy and did this fix issue once swapped over? Sorry for questions need a little guidance so any help would be much much appreciated.

Hi Ross,

The intitial photo was taken in the nearside passenger footwell with the glovebox removed. I bought the temperature control flap motor from Audi which was a tad on the expensive side....they are available cheaper elsewhere. After Marcus changed it the hot and cold settings worked perfectly and it did solve the problem.

Cheers

Dave.

Just the Reply I was after thank you very much

errr... no.

it's not about stickiness. The wiper of the pot slowly degrades the tracks and the wiper itself loses connectivity over time. The flaps are moved every time the car starts - and every time the car warms up as it tries to adjust the temperature coming out of the flaps to the one on the display. Doesn't matter how warm the engine gets, if you've dialled in 18, it will try to get to 18 and then stay there.

Over time, therefore, the climate unit is no longer sure where the closed and open positions are in terms of the resistance shown by the flap and that's why they fail. A 001 "exercise" may help the unit to understand the new reality but it's mostly an exercise in medium-term futility. The pots need changing at some point, the question is whether you do it now or later. It is not the flap itself and you don't change the flap itself, just the servo motor setup that moves it.

I am experiencing a sticky heater flap and am "preparing" to change the servo motor. The info I found on the forum says to just pull the glovebox and heater vent in the footwell... But, I my A2 is LeftHandDrive...
Do you know if Audi had a different heater unit for LHD and RHD, or should I start to look for the heater flap servo motor by dismantling everything under the steering wheel in my car...

Most of the central part of the climate unit is the same for both LHD and RHD. The temperature and de-mist motors will still be on the left side of the central box on LHD so you will need to remove the panel under the steering wheel for access.

This post covers getting access on LHD. Although its in relation to the G263 sensor, it does show pictures of how to gain access to this area. The G263 sensor is above the temperature and de-mist motors on LHD.

Not true Andrew. There are RHD and LHD versions of everything (even the flap motors) bar the electrical heating element (if you have one) and the filter! There's no room for the filter under the steering wheel; it's always on the passenger side. The fan assembly is always inboard of the filter, hence the R & LHD versions.

The heater assembly is different for R & LHD:

I don't think that you will find the heater/fan assembly under the steering wheel - there's not enough space. The fan motor seems to be inboard of the air filter which is located on the passenger side, whether L or RHD. So behind the centre console in both cases, on the RHS for LHD.

RAB
OK, it makes sense that there are different heater/ventilation components behind the dash in the LHD and RHD models.
But what I would like to confirm is whether the servo motor for the heater flap (sticks at the moment) is on the driver or the passenger side of a LHD A2 as Andrew indicates...
Thx in advance.
