Information Alarm going off !

My keys are the new type with the red led - I believe @PaulA2 upgraded to these.
David,

As this is the case them I could well be right here.

Reasoning:

My brand new looking refurbished later style keys from eBay had aftermarket battery covers as part of the refurbishment by the seller.

These battery covers had cheap battery spring clips which needed bending a little as they were just too weak and I had to synchronise the primary used fob every few weeks until I bent the spring clip.

All sorted now. Maybe this could be your issue?

Kind regards,

Tom

You've replaced the battery in the keyfob, right? Then put the key in the ignition and turn to position II and press Lock and Unlock on the fob to resync it. If you're still getting trouble, somone local may have VCDS to be able to scan it for CCCU faults .... looking at the location, that might be Andy @Clackers.

Tried the new battery and the resync method but no joy.

Toby, Andy,

What comes up on a VCDS scan?

Has the key fob been synchronised post battery change ( either key fob battery or Vehicle battery) failing that has Steve’s @Birchall guide been followed to programme the fob to the CCCU as the key fob may we’ll be ‘new’ and not matched to the CCCU.

If it doesn’t match to the CCCU then pleases add pictures of the said CCCU and the remote half of the key fob as it’s possible they’re not compatible with each other.

This could be a simple fix as this system isn’t the most sophisticated of components to swap should one of the items in the circuit be at fault.

Whatever you do, do not call an auto locksmith.

Kind regards,

Tom

Sorry to sound like a novice but what’s a CCCU?

Morning Toby,

The CCCU is the Central Convenience Control Unit which does many wonderful things and plays an important part in the communication of your key to the vehicles network. I'm not an expert on its exact function. Its located under the aluminium plate beneath the carpet in the passengers footwell.

It looks like this:
CCCU.jpeg

Note the part number of 8Z0 959 433 AF, the letter(s) at the end will tell prove if you have the correct key for the CCCU. Please do add a picture of yours so we can try to understand if there might be a simple reason why the key fob may not be 'syncing'.

Here's the CCCU zoomed out to show where it is located:

If you have a specific CCCU then you can also add the later style keys:

The key fob part number is accessible if you separate the 2 halves of the fob:

Please excuse the scruffy fob, I've not yet upgraded 250's fobs. The letter D at the end of the part number (8Z0 837 231 D), or lack of it will also inform us if you have the correct key for your CCCU.

Hope this helps Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

EDIT: Other Tom beat me to it.
