Will be interested to hear how you get on. The facory Alcantara on my drivers seat was a bit worn when I got my car and is slowly getting worse so one day ( If i keep it) will want to get it sorted.
From what Mike/Skipton has experienced with his retro fit heated seat isn't this quite complex operation? It will need a new climate control panel with the heated seat switches at least? I would love to have seat heating but suspect it is easier to find a car with it factory fitted like Daivids 'wasp'!
There is a centre console part with the switches on either side, so you don't need a new climate control unit.
Taking the covers off is supposed to be tricky and mats are €50 for 4 on German Ebay (waeco). They're not as powerful as the originals and they'll only heat the centre of the seat, but I dare say it's better than nothing.
No problem fella,s i doubt i,d be able to go down the heating route as i dont have climate (doh) which is why i would prefer cloth of some description Alcantara is a better option than say suede as i think it will wear better.
Well i hope it would.
Ahhh, but if you don't have climate, there's a cheaper way to get the heater controls into the dash - there's a version of the little stowage shelf with a narrower opening and the thumbwheels in the sides.
Instead of the £350+ it's a steal at less than £40!!!
Correct, there's the wiring from the controls to the seats, the cost of the heater elements, but that's it really - the fitting of the elements can be done whilst the re-upholstery is being done, so it's fairly straightforward!
I had factory-fitted Alcantara trim on a 1994 Citroen XM and, given its poor wear resistance, I vowed to stay clear of it. The beige/black leather retrim I had done on my A2 in September 2007 by Seat Surgeons near York still looks as good as new after 26,000 miles of use.
