Aluminium Fatigue

Yes repaired no problems, took 5 days in the end. The repair was contracted out to an external body shop.

I must say that the franchise made us feel like 2nd class citizens though, Out of production and the lowest designated model and still want freebies. Well they didn't actually say that to us but thats the feeling the service team gave us. They must have some kind of superiority complex. It doesn't put me off Audi just that franchise.

I'm sorry to hear of your poor standards of customer care Tontonly - unfortunately, you're not alone in this and as an A2 owner, we are more and more frequently seen as the lowest of the low by many dealerships (despite knowing that they could sell our cars many times over if they came in as a part exchange!!).

I am glad though that you can make the distinction between the way that Audi UK support us (they do a hell of a lot behind the scenes) and the way that a franchise holder treats you - just bear it in mind with any future dealings - they (the dealership) are not Audi - they are just the holder of the local license to sell the marque.

Cheers

Mike

Yeah seems they think 'we' are a nuisance or something. This dealer seems to have forgotten they are bringing out some smaller models this year and in the near future. And who are likely to buy these?

According to the Audi website I have access to 5 franchise dealers within 15 miles of my home so I'm not too put off ;)

I got it aswell!!! on both front doors, have booked in to see the warranty guy at audi camberley so hope it all goes well, those who have had the repair what do they do, is it a whole new door or just a new hinge and is the paint matching good??

Chris

The repair is pretty much undetectable, theres no repaint as its just rapaired at the hinge. The damaged/cracked area is removed and the new hinge is attached to the 'door jam' or "inner door skin"? I think, then a new rubber cover/grommet is used so can't really see the repair at all unless you want to take off the rubber cover/grommet.

Ok, pretty simple stuff then hope the dealer makes it quick and easy as they havent with anything else!!

Chris

Hey guys, I'm working on a project and am looking for some fatigue data for aluminum alloys, A356-T6 in particular. I've looked through the MIL-5 and Aerospace (Cindas) handbooks and haven't found any decent information.

The textbook I have "Mechanical Engineering Design" by Shigley and Mischke only lists data for steel and other steel alloys. Does anyone have any decent references for stress vs cycles or anything decent?

Thanks.

I thought I'd brush the cob webs off this thread... Took newly acquired A2 (Huggie) to Audi Chingford, for inspection and, a week later upon collecting my A4 DTM they told me that Audi will not honor the repair on the A2!

This car has a full service history with the same 'local' garage to the previous owner, but only a couple of stamps with Audi themselves.

SO, gotta bring in the big guns here.... Mike?! :D

After finding this thread I have just checked mine and they are both cracked. Are Audi still honouring the free repair. Sarge 786 how did you get on in the end?

Thanks

No luck with Pathetic Chingford Audi, asked Big Guns (Mike (Skipton)) to have a word with Audi UK, still awaiting contact :(

audi will repair this problem with any A2 up to 8 years old. Running from the date the car was registered this information is on audi desk top so i have been told ;) so tell your dealer to take a look

I'm just now reading about this issue... :( and my car is with Worthing Audi for Open Sky repair/refit so cannot check. Are Audi only authorizing repair under warranty for cars up to 8 years old as mentioned above?

If so, even with the cracks, i would be out of luck...anyone know the cost to get this fixed if out of warranty?

I checked it out the other day, and didn't say anything as you don't have cracks to worry about!

My service book makes reference to Audi giving a warranty of 10 years on bodywork. Where did the 8 year come from?

Thanks for posting and taking a look while with you. Ignore my 'forever worrying' mind....i really need to take a step back and ENJOY the car!

What is the price for this fix kit? I have checked with my Audi dealer and they said that they only fix it FOC for cars up to 5 year old.
Are there any news on this? Do they fix in other countries also cars that are older and out of warranty? What if it wasn't services by authorized Audi garage?

Picked my new to me A2 up and I have cracks about 15mm long both sides at described its a 2005 with Full Audi history, but I guess I am in for a battle had enough battles with Yeovil Audi over the years with our other cars!
