Aluminium Fatigue

Well when i got mine done it only had its first service done at main dealer then the rest was indi and when i bought it i have been servicing it (which we are a VAG approved workshop Audi, VW and Skoda) and mine got done with a little push from the contact that Mike(Skipton) knows but at that time it was still in the stage when they wasn't getting many in the UK applying for this so sometimes they needed a little push

Found a crack in the door next to the top hinge on my drivers door yesterday, have booked in at local Audi dealer at Grange Over Sands but the service staff were playing the " we know nothing" card on the phone, so they want to see it first.
My A2 is an 02 plate with full dealer history from new. 1.4 petrol base model with 170K and runs like new.
Have printed out Mike Skiptons sheet with the part numbers on but will it help?
Anyone got any pointers or tips? Would be appreciated.
Cheers Win

Hi Win,

I too recently found cracks on my front door hinges, my car is a 2004 TDI 90 with 87,000 and full main dealer service history. My car was looked at by Stratford Audi who quoted almost £600 to repair. I did question the repair being covered under the 12 year warranty on the body but these cracks are not classed as corrosion. I have also spoken to Audi UK regarding this and after a few phone calls they too have said this repair will not be covered by the warranty.

Hope you have better luck than I did.

I've got cracks on my front door hinge areas too by the looks of it. Will give West Laandan Audi a call and see what they say.

Has anyone been to Lomond Audi, near Breahead, about this issue ?
I have quite a bad "tear" on the off side door.

I don't recall any of the local owners posting about Glasgow Audi's bodyshop for this repair. On a positive note regardless of this, they are one of the few 'aluminium approved' dealers in Scotland and if you research this thread and print off the post which includes the 'campaign code' (this details the terms of the warranty repair) I am sure it will be a successful outcome for you.

It does sound like the free repair on this has finished now. The main alternative being buying the kit and doing the fix yourself, as I recall Hotstuff has already succeeded at doing this.

Anyone near the Kendal area good at this sort of repair? Don't have to be a garage and don't mind paying just not Audi prices!

Was advised at Glasgow Audi today that this repair is still being honoured under warranty. If you are refused by the dealer I would check with Audi UK.

This thread has been dormant for over a year so am wondering if anyone knows if the repair is still being honoured.

I have had my A2 just over 2 weeks and reading this forum has alerted me to all of the A2 foibles including the cracked hinge area and yes checking today I have exactly that. I had hoped that maybe it had already had the repair.

Before I prepare to do battle with the Dealership knowledge of the current position would be valuable

My nearest Dealer is Vindis in Huntingdon, has anyone had there doors fixed there?

I hope not to have to call on Mike for support

Thanks for any help

It was not a time barred warranty that Skipton negotiated so if you quote the campaign code on this thread it should be fine.

Good job Murdo for following this up. If anyone can get Audi to do a warranty repair they should jump at it.

Despite my very good relationship with MK Audi, the cracks on humpy's doors were not subject to a warranty claim. Armed with docs of this forum, I argued this and was shown the rejected code from Audi themselves. I ended up buying the bits and doing the repair myself, and, judging by some reports and pics of Dealer attempts, I'm glad I did!

From your posting it sounds as though you think I am unlikely to get anywhere with my local Audi Dealership or indeed Audi UK!

I will visit them today and feedback to the forum their response.

If I hit a brick wall are you saying it is a waste of time asking Mike to 'send in the big guns' as he had in the past?

If I fail with the dealership, how difficult is it to get the necessary repair kits?

Thanks for the help

Geoff

Don't forget that the "goodwill replacement" deal on the BrokenSkys was seemingly only accessible by Worthing Audi. When other dealers (in my case, West London Audi, plus the one that Hooley went to) attempted to access it using the same information that Worthing Audi would have used, they failed. I suspect it's a very opaque system...

Well I went to Vindis in Huntingdon and had a very cordial reception. Was not made to feel like a poor relation.

Spoke with the Customer Services Manager, initial response was that they were not aware of this problem and hence had not done any of these repairs.

They took the TPL details I gave them and read them with interest. Could not find reference to it on the systems. The Vehicle Servicing Manager showed interest and came and took photos and has promised to submit a warranty claim to Audi UK and will get back to me when they get a response.
He could not comment on the likely outcome but was giving reassuring words over the options of partial cost cover and coming to an arrangement.

I said I would wish to have the job done one way or another but any offer that required the customer to pay any significant amount would be in contradiction with the TPL. The point was made that TPLs can be revised and even withdrawn and give that our documentation was drawn up in 2008 he felt it may well have changed.

I am sure it will be of interest to other Forum members that still have this problem whether it can be cover by the Warranty negotiated by Mike and others.

I will re post when Audi UK's response to the dealership is passed to me.

Geoff

Not sure if anyone is following this post or interested in the status of the TPL issued by Audi on the door cracking warranty?

Anyway I promised to report back on the position taken VIndis (the VAG dealership in Huntingdon)

Had a call today saying that Audi UK had withdrawn this TPL in 2010 (though from Murdo's post he had it confirmed that Audi were still honour the warranty in 2012)

They say they would extend goodwill on this problem shared between, Audi UK, the dealership and me. The condition being that I had the car serviced by them.
Cost to me for service and door repairs would be £500. Not exactly 'no cost to the customer' I was hoping for.

It looks like the repair kit might be the answer. I have asked the Dealer to quote me for the kits.

I will keep you informed of the cost of the kits for those who fancy doing it themselves.

Geoff

Hi Geoff
Plenty of interest in your discoveries for sure, many of us have this issue.
Let us know on the cost of the repair kit.
The £500 quote - what is the door repair if you exclude the Audi service?

dan_b

They did not give me a breakdown, I suggest deliberately. They did not even say what type of service.

Can't recall now whether they said 'have a service with us' or 'have it serviced with us' which could imply a longer commitment (not that they could hold you to it).

I have asked Tony (hotstuff) by PM what it cost him for the repair kits as this might be a preferred option.

Geoff

Thanks for the update. It's a shame the campaign was stopped. As you say, it doesn't explain the advice I received in 2012 but that was in conversation and the bodyshop estimator was aware of the campaign - no formal enquiries were made to confirm if it was still applicable. I think I'll check with them again so to have a 'second opinion' to the Vindis findings. If indeed it was withdrawn in 2010, I was given a duff steer and I apologise in advance if it created false hope. I'm in Audi on the 17th, so will ask then and request they make the enquiry on the campaign code.
