Another ABS thread

Hi All,

I have been having an intermittent abs fault coming up for a week or two. Fortunately, it was not showing when the car passed its MOT a week or so ago. Now it is on all the time. What I've done so far:

Scanned with Vag-com - front left abs fault - mechanical problem.
Cleared faults - comes on again after a few yards driving. Checked fault codes again. This time it was implausible signal.
Cleared fault. Changed both front sensors. Cleaned down sensor hole with cotton buds. Same fault after a few yards.
Checked wiring to left front abs sensor - signs of previous repair so re-repaired.
Cleared fault and it came back again. Sometimes it says mechanical fault and sometimes it is implausible signal.

So, I figure it is either the front wheel bearing, or the abs controller itself.
I don't have the special tool for the front bearings, so I guess I'll have to put it in to a garage for replacement.

Anyone have any other clues for things to check?

Cheers, Geoff

I have not got anything to recommend to check.

But if you take it into a garage then I would recommend stealth racing in Southam. Not that far from you.

They do lots of work on A2's so know our cars inside out.

Cheers

Sound like a similar problem to me (see my thread). Except mine started being a pain only after the wheel bearing was replaced (for whining while driving).

Another wheel bearing replacement seems the only option. Don't buy the cheapest bearing you can seems to be the moral of the story. I'll be buying genuine Audi from now on.

EDIT; you're also very close to me. I'm in Lichfield and I've been using Mackenzies in Lichfield for my work. PM if you'd like to discuss.
