Another cat nicked

I was gutted to hear yesterday that my old 1.4 petrol, that I sold on to a student as his first car, got cat cut off yesterday - day time on quite busy Manc street.
I know there have been recent threads on this but it seems as if the cost might be almost too high to allow an otherwise functional and for him really important car on the road.
What solutions have been found - any of the breakers able to help?? If not any other good ideas?
Chris

Mine cost 500 for each car to repair last week - went with aftermarket cats. Depends if they have cut through sensors etc in taking the cat off I am told. On one we just replaced the cat on another it made more sense to replace a longer piece of the exhaust system. Garage guy said that the stolen cats were worth 30 to 50 each…

My cat was nicked this morning. Big mistake! Soon returned! My wife is terrified of her!

When we take Cherry to the vet, we have to fetch the cat box from the loft the day before. Otherwise if she hears the aluminium ladder being extended up to the loft, she's out of the cat flap like a rocket and over the neighbour's fence! She'll be 16 in April. She has mellowed a bit with time but that's not saying much. I have the scars to prove it!

When i take mine off to do flexi repair i am going to weld a square shape on it so it looks like its been gutted!

Enjoying the mixture of animal and criminal.
Can anyone recommend anyone in Manc area that ‘Alan’ as he’s known (as he’s made of Al!) could be taken to to get sorted?

If the cat looks like it's been gutted your next mot tester might fail it if it appears to have been modified

DefectCategory
(a) Emission control equipment fitted by the manufacturer: missing, obviously modified or obviously defectiveMajor

Indeed but if i am not mistaken if you have good reason to explain it then that is acceptable
I may smash it out too as i have heard it can help the engine to breath allowing better mpg

Perhaps just give it a wash and a good soak in a dilute mixture of Citric acid and water. Mine was very clogged but came out spotless.
[I skipped the oxalic]

Any advice on how to fix / replace? Mine just got nicked this evening…1.6 FSI

Sorry to hear of another cat theft - it’s a particularly annoying crime- the criminals get a v modest reward and the innocent victim left with a huge cost.
My old car’s student owner turned, as many of us have with a huge range of problems, to WOM. They sorted it but inevitably wasn’t a cheap fix.
Hope you get a solution that works for you
Much sympathy
Chris
