Hi all,

You may have already seen me posting in the General forum asking some Q's (Another 'Would you buy this' thread) - and, well, I did buy it, so it looks like I will be sticking around..

I've now got a 2005 1.4TDI 90ps SE (I think), in blue, with light-grey cloth interior - 4-seater, climate control, (jammed) CD player, front fogs, and some odd stripey 6-spoke rims (plus a bonus extra full-size wheel in the boot!). First impressions are good - it seems to have been well taken care of. It even has all its original bits and pieces, most of which look like they've never been used (pump, repair kit, triangle/first-aid kit, oil bottle bag, etc).

The only issues I've found so far are that the wiper has scraped a grove into the lower part of the windscreen (I've found some threads here about similar issues - seems I may be missing a rubber spacer), and the passenger side overhead light button is dodgy. Beyond fixing the wiper, I may look into a few minor mods/retrofits. I'm interested in adding parking sensors for a start, as my other car (a Golf) has them, and despite initial scepticism I've kinda gotten used to the reassuring beeeeeps.

Anyway, the reading I did on this forum before I joined played a big part in convincing me to consider an A2 - so thanks, it really is a great resource. Fingers crossed this'll turn out to be a good purchase.

Hi,

Glad you have started the "addiction" of owning an A2.

As for the wiper, it is not just that the rubber is missing, the rubber should not be touching the screen anyway, adding the rubber will just push the wiper further away.

If you don't want to replace the wiper arm you might be able to tighten up the rivets using some of the tips in the recent posts.
Grabbing the two arms near the wiper and twisting it slightly can sometimes buy you a bit of time. you can do that to effectively lift the part of the arm that is touching, away from the glass, this is just a temporary fix because as has been mentioned it does affect the wiper angle.

Check out the "How To Index" thread for lots of tips etc.

There is no known cure once the A2 bug hits you, and it probably will !!

Cheers, Steve - I'll give that a go.

By the way, can anyone tell me which blue I've got? Would be good to know if I need to paint sensors, etc.

Welcome to the club and looks as if you've found a great little car,
I think you have Mauritius Blue but if you open the flap in your boot that covers the battery compartment you should have a sticker containing all the details including paint code, happy motoring.
Cheers Jeff

I can second the wiper advice. Mine has scraped the bottom of the windscreen, but some bending, tightening and general manhandling has stopped it doing it since (over a year and a half now).

Thanks for the tip - and it is indeed Mauritius Blue.
