Hello everyone. I’m on the train from Penzance to Kent to collect my second A2 1.6FSI, sight unseen, except for Auto Trader photos. Black with red leather. No sunroof. 80k miles. OTT price! I had one a few years ago, and although I had horrendous re-conditioned engine problems with it, I need another! I’ll let you know if this is one for keeping, or one for selling. I wonder if the car is known to anyone here ? That’s it for now.

Hi, also in Cornwall (not far away from you Camborne) and spent Sunday driving to Bristol and back to pick up my first A2, a project car thats got some alarm/electrical gremlins. Will shortly post my own "hello" post.
Hi CarBore. Hope your car is ok. I am scared of electric probs with cars. Do hope you get on well with the A2.

Just an update on my original post ....... The 1.6FSi is in gleaming, unmarked black with lovely red leather seats. It has aircon and central locking, but really that's about it. I am not worried. That's less to go wrong. I understand from this excellent Group that loads can be done to upgrade if I want to.
The car is going fine, but as it has so little history (apart from being a one-owner with 85k) I am going to have it fully checked over by WOM in Stoke-on-Trent. I'll definitely have timing belt and water pump fitted, together with a waterless cooling system, which should bring down the operating temperature to 90 degrees. Maybe a new clutch too. A2Steve is sending me a ProBoost re-mapping unit.
I'll let you all know how it goes, if you're interested.

Hi I’m a member in Veryan, Cornwall with my 19 year old 1.4 tdi. Could do with some expert A2 advice, where to take to have timing belt & waterpump replaced here in Cornwall please? Regards

Hi. I'm in Lanner (previously Bedfordshire). Haven't got an A2 now, but my 1.4 TDI SE was the car I have liked the most—and I've had a few over my 50-odd driving years! Every time I see one locally my heart misses a beat.

Hello Jules. I couldn’t find any specialist here in Cornwall. That’s why I am taking it up north for a big check over. Hopefully once that’s done, somebody local will be able to look after it if I can’t.

Hi Richard. I am rather like you. I bought a 1.6 FSI a few years ago, fully loaded. All the electrics were fine, even the sunroof. However the engine was a big dud. I stupidly thought a reconditioned one would be a good idea. How wrong was that! The idiots managed to put some other VW engine in, which was just rotten. I sold the car for scrap, but still liked the idea of the car itself, hence my latest purchase. Might see you when I go to Lanner. ?

Thought I would just give a short update to you, as a new 1.6 FSI owner.
I bought four nice 15 inch pepperpot wheels on EBay, then put Michelin Crossclimates on them. 195x60x15. I think this combination makes for a very comfortable ride, and will cope with all the handling I’ll ever give it.
This afternoon I put two new Meyle droplinks on the suspension (shock absorber to anti-roll bar). Easy job, and all the knocking has gone! Brilliant.
Thanks to A2Steve the car now has a ProBoost unit, which has made a definite improvement all round. The engine sounds like a sewing machine, and goes really well.
i’m having it properly checked over on Thursday by our local independent Audi garage. I would like them to tell me if there’s anything else which needs doing, especially to let me know if new belts and waterpump are needed. The car has only done 85,000 miles, so the previous owner might not have changed these.
That’s about it for now..... but I must thank people on this brilliant forum for all the knowledge they have offered. It gives me much more confidence in the car, and it is really good to know that there are always experts here to help when needed. Many, many thanks from Cornwall.

Welcome!

Those tyres are quite a bit larger than the standard overall diameter - you’ll have gained a few mph per 1000RPM on the motorway there!

The correct 15” tyre size is 175/60/15, so your size is something like 4% difference I think, which is a lot in this context.

I’m not taking anything from your setup, if you’re happy with it then great! Best to inform your insurance company however.

Yes, I suppose that is quite a difference. Hey Ho. All seems well. I checked speedo reading with my satnav, and they read the same. Thank you for your info.

Hi Mr Bennetts I drive past your car quite often, parked on a steep hill I think.... Looks very tidy. I've had a few fsi a2's in the past so might be able to help out if you have any problems. You've solved alot of potential issues with the proboost but make sure to change the plastic y pieces for metal if you haven't already. Saw a yellow colour storm in our Sheffield the other day too. Cheers nod

Hi, I recomend Glassons Garrage in Camborne. Iv taken all my cars there since moving here 12 years ago and they have become friends due to a shared interest in Motorsport. The are a 3rd maybe even 4th generation family business and VERY technical mechanics. When my Discovery 3 had a Turbo failure they fought the warranty company for me when said warranty company refused to pay. The car wasn't sold by them, by the way (Glassons dont do car sales). Iv trusted them with my Lotus Elise, S200, Freelander, Discovery 3, and my A2.

They have been looking after an A2 for someone local for years, it was in recently for a back axel replacement as I saw it there when I had my MOT done and was happy to see it all fixed when I went for the retest.

Coincidently both the father and son drive Audis (S3 and S4 Estate) if I recall.

PS Its got a Cornish oven pasty shop next door and they are the best pasties in West Cornwall IMO (lets not argue on that)

195/55/15 is very close, with 175/60/15 being exactly equal - 195/60/15 is 4% larger, meaning a welcome drop of about 125 revs or so at 70 mph.
