Another P/S issue

Hiya

I know there is already a thread on p/s issues, but i dont want to thread hijack hence why i have started my own thread.

As many of you will know, i am in the process of repairng a Tdi model which had a minor bump on the n/s

Having removed the wing and bumper, i saw that the old p/s unit was smashed and had water inside the contol area (not mixing with the oil!)

I changed this with the car i am breaking and still no p/s :(

Now then, i have researched the power steering issues from this site and it seems that the issue i have is that there is no power going to the control unit.

I have checked fuse 38 (cant believe that this tiny fuse is responsible for a cable as thick as the p/s power!!) and that is fine. I have also checked to see if the cable has gone through whilst rubbing on the chassis and this is all ok as well.

So what i need to know is there this thick red cable gets its power from (which fuse if it is a different one!) and where i can trace the cable from to run a new one through if required.

i have 1 word for you - LEGEND!!!!!

You have saved me from hours of troubleshooting - didnt even know the secret compartment under the footwell existed!!

just went out and checked the fuses under the footwell - now thats the sort of fuse i'd expect to be for the p/s system.

It was a 80A fuse, so i got one out of the spare car and voila - i now have a p/s system that works - sounds like the motor of my r/c car - lol

Thanks again - i hope i can repay the favor someday!

yeah, i didnt think that the water was part of the deal!

Car is comming together nicely now - need to change the dash for the airbags, get it sprayed up then Taxed and Tested - although i may get the t&t before the spray - i'll see how long it takes me to get a decent quote!

Glad it was put to good use :cool:, just a pity I found some more today :(
Moral question; is donating unwanted alcohol to a tramp a good or bad thing?

I've finally caught up with sleep & rest after getting back, I'll get the figures over in the week :)



Kaz, I'll try & be free next weekend for some parts purchasements.
 
I looked in both footwell compartments of the other halfs A2 today -

In the passenger footwell I found the ECU was just lying there metal on meatal free to vibrate away. I was going to put some bubble wrap for it to sit on before realising there was a stacking system shelf spot for it!

In the driver side footwell I found 2 kilos of cocaine and a handgun :D seriously now that space was made for illegal stuff ;)

and I thought I was the only one who used that for a cocaine:eek::p:D
