another problem :(

is there a way to tell if the dogbone mount is busted or do you reckon its just the bolts have come loose steve? also how easy is it to replace an exhaust manifold and downpipe? i think i might be capable of doing the dog bone and oil filler section but the exhaust manifold...probably not!

cheers

i haven’t touched the dog bone mount personally so I can’t comment unfortunately.

Exhaust manifold is a nightmare I've done mine never again, the turbo comes out with it and you've to lower the engine to get it out if you can avoid doing it do so.

If you take the undertray off you will see the Dog one mount, mine was terrible so I bought the febi bilstien one & fitted it with the original steel section from the old one, when taking the old one off the bolts weren’t tight !!
Fitted new unit & drives so much better
But being curious I cleaned the old one up in the blast cabinet
& can find nothing wrong.
So I would check tightness of bolts first as it’s a cheap fix.

update:

i tightened the 3 bolts of the dogbone back onto the engine but im still getting terrible vibrations through brake pedal. is this because the exhaust has split or halved in two? it will still not go into reverse gear, so im assuming something might be twisted or still not seated properly :(

the only thing i did manage to fix was the black pipe that slots into the red rubber thing on the engine lol

HELP!!!

You’ll probably still need to reset the gear selector if it’s been pulled out of alignment I think. You can borrow my pin if you like.

My engine bounces around a fair bit so I’m not sure what normal is. How does it compare to the other car When you look at the engine running?

what is really annoying is the need to drop engine and axle to get the exhaust fixed :/ and the fact that i cant tell if its split or totally halved in two :( either way im not sure how to approach a garage and say the above without them costing me and arm and a leg!

does anyone know how much roughly the exhaust would cost to fix?

cheers

is it a tdi ?
if it is the complete system is the only thing available new at £620
the likes of HQ etc never made a pattern part

however as that is totally outrageous there are option, I replaced the flexi pipe for £25 plus some work to cut out the old flexi and mig weld in the new flexi pipe, a few hours work, but a great result and should last another 15 years
The rest of the tdi exhaust seems to be rot free

I did post some pictures of the flexi replacement a few months ago
Cheers,

Cheers,

Mr Exhaust who did my 1.4 petrol exhaust list prices for some Tdi models for much less than £620 - their site shows pages from Bosal, but they just use them for illustration, they aren't Bosal systems they fit.
They also do part systems

It's a long way from Scotland, but if they can do it, surely an independent exhaust specialist somewhere nearer can do a similar job?
Or worth the trip to Reigate for a big enough saving?

thanks for your response guys.

car has been uplifted by one of murdos close friends who has a garage not far from glasgow. lets hope the diagnosis is not too bad and that santa has come early with a good price :D

should probably know this week how much its going to cost....

Um, can I have the details of this fella's garage too? If he's handy for Glasgow and knows about A2's he might be my new friend... I do need a service...
