Another rear seat thread... Sorry!

Hi All,

I've skimmed through a number of the rear seat threads, but I think this situation is slightly different.

The main 'top' lever has always been a bit flaky, and has now finally given up. Looking from the boot at the pin mechanism it seems this has been broken and bodged in the past - they've somehow made multiple saw cuts into the pin to somehow lift it back up out of the catch:

I can't get any kind of purchase on this in order to lift it up (broken and bent a couple of screw drivers), and absolutely no idea how they've managed to saw it!

Any bright ideas?!

Its likely the base is not fully located get your knees on the base cushion and bounce up and down on it

With previous history, long term replace the seat, should be able to pick up for nothing with patience, then you can become destructive if need be.

Short term persevere, on Howeys's point post a picture of the seat viewed from the boot with the other seat in position.

Thanks for the replies.

This is an issue with the top lever - at parcel shelf height, against the door/window. The plastic handle won't lift the pin - metal element with saw cuts in image above (it's become detached somehow), so I don't think the base is an issue.

Absolutely no problem with getting destructive, I don't want this dodgy pin left anyway, I just don't know how to remove it!

theres a curved hook-shaped piece of metal (sorry Im not near the car so can't post a photo) that the plastic handle attaches to and that the handle lifts the internal mechanism. Essentially it's an L-shaped piece that connects to the internal metal slider that controls the pin.

As your photo shows, the seat is not parallel with the side of the car, so the end of the pin (which has a ridge) can't come up beyond the plate. If you can push the top of the rear seat towards the side of the car (i.e. laterally) while hooking the metal lifting mechanism inside the seat you may be able to lift it. Might help to have someone kneel on the base while lifting the pin also.

Once the seat is free, you can correctly locate the base and the issue should be gone. Repair of the plastic handle is likely to be tricky...

That's the theory anyway. I've been unsuccessful with exactly the same issue.

I realise the problem is with the top pull release but as I understand it is connected to the base and until the base is sorted it won't work.

The best insight I know of is here, okay for a 1.2 but will that matter?

Essentially identical seats Andy so that should be grand.
