another windscreen wiper thread.....

Hello list

My windscreen wiper is making a nice scrape mark up the passenger side of the windscreen where it parks.

I would like to try to remove the arm so I can bash the rivets, at the join, together, in order to reduce the very slack movement there.

The big bolt was easy to remove & the top arm simple to lever off using the bottom bolt as a point to lever from.

Any pointers as to how to remove the other arm, the one attached with the 13mm nut.

I have already put a crack in my windscreen trying (not) carefully (enough) to use that as a lever point. No real worries as it needed changing before the next MOT anyway.

Is there some sort of tool that I can use, similar to a bearing puller that anyone in here would recommend?

Thanks in advance

When I replaced the wiper arm I used a cheapo puller got from machine mart which wasn't exactly a perfect fit but it did help in the loosening process.

It's also a good idea to soak in WD40, give it a few taps with a hammer all the way round and one on top, lift the arm so it is vertical and give if a few side to side waggles, leave for 10 mins and repeat. In my case this proved sufficient to loosen enough for it to be manually pulled off (ooeer missus ).

Is this for one of the older wiper arms? If it is I would heartily recommend replacing it for the newer floppy wiper.

I'm not sure whether this issue can actually occur in the old design - it's all much further away from the windscreen.

I wasn't entirely sure either Mike, but thought it worthwhile to ask just in case as it is such a great mod.
