Could someone explain exactly what this option does if it is activated.

Thanks
Alex.

Is it the one that locks the doors above 5mph? Or something else?

That one. My father in law's mercedes has it. It's funny. You drive away and suddenly all the doors are locked.

Dennis,

Thought that was the other way round, if I am stopped at traffic lights I would want the doors locked and open when moving?

Apparently, all that you mention is achievable through the diagnostics tool - http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/diag.htm

How close to purchase are we Stu? This is the main thing I want to use it for at the social.

Yes, but once you get in the car and you move faster than 15 km/h the doors lock and remain locked until opened from the inside. The doors do not keep locking and unlocking when stopping and driving.

No... mine locks at 5mph and stays locked until you take the key out of the ignition. BUT as with all Audis they will unlock in an accident, the interior light will be switched on as well has the hazard lights... so don't worry about being locked inside your car in an accident!!! :D

A lot of opportunistic bag thieves hang around traffic lights where a lot of cars are bunched together... since most central locking systems open ALL the doors and people drive around like that, the rear doors are thus open. They walk past your car in this slow traffic, see whatever on the rear seat, open your door, take the bag/etc and will be running and merging with other pedestrians before you've even realised... (at least the A2 does not have visible door locks so these thieves can't SEE the car is open... they have to guess...)

The further and far worse option is that they get into the car with you, hold a knife to your throat and tell you where to go, drop you off (unharmed if you're lucky) and drive off with your car...

Mine is set to lock above 5mph already... but I would like to have the selective locking as we have on the Golf: thus only unlocking the driver's door with one click and a double click to unlock all doors (this is because in dark car parks at night thieves hide behind your car, and as you unlock (all the doors) they get in with you and do whatever...)

I may be a bit paranoid... but better safe than sorry I say.

Yep, I wouldn't want them unlocking and locking at different speeds. Once I start driving I want them locked until I either pull the key out of the ignition/turn it off, or I have a crash so I can get out OK, or I pull the handles twice myself.

The key fob idea is a good one also, I haven't got it, but have often wondered how frustrating it would be to then have to click it twice after 5 years of not doing it.

If you think that is frustrating we have a Passat where 1 press unlocks the drivers door, 2 (within about 5 seconds) all the doors, A2 is one push for all doors. Reverse is also opposite side of the gearbox in the Passat compared to A2 (makes for interesting car park manouvers).

I want to get the doors set to the Passat method and to switch to the locked when moving but the wife will play hell when we do - she doesn't like things changing! Pity I can't get the gearbox changed as well!!

Why are NEARLY all the A2s in Lichfield are silver ? ? ?

Same position for me, the A4 has reverse in a different location to the A2. I too also want the single press for driver door and then second press for others. Also want the locking of the doors in transit >5mph. Not sure yet how the 'other driver' will take to it.
