anyone ever experimented with the diesel timing?

As the timing is adjustable on the top pulley and it changes as the belt wears, has anyone ever experimented with the position in the 3 slots? I have the tools to set the timing to standard but wondered if anyone who is a proper tuning company with access to rolling road has done it and noted the results as i am trying it a millimeter each way to see what happens. tried it too much one way and it didnt want to run and had to set it back so be warned. It does seem to shift the power around the rev range though.
