Anyone have experience of changing the oil sensor on a TDI?

I am getting the orange 'oil level low' warning light on my TDI 90 despite the oil level being perfect. Warning light seems to disappear each time I check the oil level only for it reappear after ~60 miles of travelling. Noticed an excellent guide on the site for changing the oil sensor on the petrol A2s but cannot find a similar guide for a diesel. Is it straightforward to do? Located in a similar position to the one on the petrol model? Anything to keep in mind when changing?

Kindest regards

Paul

Yes removed it yesterday. Very unlikely to have got it without having the sump off. Would twist slightly but wouldn't pull up, after 14 years the plastic feels very brittle.

In the end decided to risk destroying it so pulled it and manipulated it from above and tapped it from below with a hide mallet.

The locating boss and O ring were solid with road muck / salt deposits. If you can't shift it sump off is not a massive job if all the screws come out. Try the 4 across the front crank seal housing casting first. If they come out easily the job is a doddle. I snapped one and stripped the thread in two others. Then you are on for a major strip down.

Edit: the alternative to strip down if the threads fail is drilling out and repairing the threads from under the car.

Thank you Phil, seems more involved than I thought. Might be a job for an independent...removing the sump is like crossing the Rubicon to me! Out of interest where did you buy the replacement part from. Seem a lot more expensive than the petrol equivalents. Thanks again Phil and Spike for your replies.

Before you take your car to a garage remove the single screw and give it a pull. If you are lucky it will simply pullout.

My sensor was solid with with road grime and salt and wouldn't budge a micron upwards. I shouldn't need a replacement unless I broke it and there is no evidence of that. Had to remove it because I needed to remove the crank front seal housing and there is a screw right behind the sensor.
