Anyone here own a Mk2 Golf gti?

Yip, i own a 1985 8v in Atlas Grey. Had it since 2007. It goes on the road for the summer months. So far no big bills 😁

I haven't any photos but was definitely subtle metallic black. I had atlas grey tx jetta prior, also nice colour. 👍 may have been a special option. You know I'm going to have to search now don't you!!!
Yes I had to check it out too. I've checked the 1989 brochure for my car and there are three no cost colours black, white and red. At extra cost metallic silver, jade. grey and blue,
Schwartz black metallic was a rare special edition colour on MK2s; I've never seen one.

Nor me ever since, with I'd kept it, the jetta was so rare, think there's less than 100 left in UK 16v

I had a 1987 Mk2 5dr on Tornado Red. I purchased it in 1996 with 105000 on the clock, and sold it in 1999 with 225000 for £500. 10 years later, I was offered it back...

I absolutely thrashed mine every time I drove it. It’s fine, they handle it well.

I'd agree with that, they're tough old things. I've had two 16v, a Jetta 16v, two 8v and one converted to 20v turbo. Also had a Mk1 GTI and a lot of Mk2 Sciroccos of various specs as well as a Mk5 GTI until recently. I'd love to have a good Mk2 again with some simple chassis upgrades and a strong K-Jet engine. Simple fun cars.

Hi all.
Just purchased a very run down(not used since 2008!) mk2 Golf gti 3 door 90 spec 1.8 8valve in scwarz black.
Does anyone here own one?
Thanks Steve
No but my sisters boyfriend has a White Golf Gti Mark II

HI All
Latest on golf.
Going slow as change of job has caused me to focus on other things.
All sound deadening done, with carpet and dash board refitted along with most of the interior trim.
Steering column refurbished with new lower bush and new OEM ignition lock/barrel unit.
All key locks are refurbished and coded to the original key.
New component speakers (tweeters) fitted to dash and mid range speakers fitted to front door cards.
All internal crevices have been fully wax oiled, to protect against future corrosion.
New OEM speakers fitted into rear parcel shelf supports (genuine uncut black parcel shelf here also)
As the car already had a bee sting fitted to the roof i decided to keep the look, but upgraded it to a newer shorter VW Fm/Am and dab bee sting from a VW polo/up circa 2013.
The driver side door lower corner is repaired (not great but the car is going to be a survivor) the hole in roof by sunroof also is repaired and flashed with black paint (will finish when car is on road).
Found a good condition second hand bonnet in black that will be painted with other panels (front wings and front bumper).
Drivers interior door card strengthened with fibre glass kit, still ongoing with repair.
Then will need to glue fabric back onto door card before attempting to re fit.
All brake lines and hoses renewed and brakes bled.
Not in the picture, but also i have a fully refurbished leather steering wheel in the same style as what is fitted.
Still a long way to go guys.
Steve

@philward Thank you. My main concern is that i haven't driven this car! I am just trying to get it to get it presentable and roadworthy. Will decide which way i will go with it after i have used it for a summer.
But with good quality 2nd hand parts getting harder to come by and new non existent, it's looking likely that i will stick with the used survivor look.
But i will be more than happy when i get to that stage!
Steve

Busy day today. Stainless exhaust fitted and drove car out of garage(1st time) to give garage and car a good clean.
Wings, bonnet and front bumper are all waiting for my trusted painter to have a time slot available.
So far it's the beginning of july at earliest.
Then it will be reassemble time and then prep for it's 1st mot since 2008!!
Old exhaust (ernst) was well past it's sell by date.

Classic, like the wheels, have you got 15" bba originals?
