Anyone here own a Mk2 Golf gti?

Very slow at mo. Battery tray done, front slam panel and engine compartment all back together. Cut out rot in tyre well and rear inner arches, removed and stripped rear axle for powder coating. Prepped and painted auxiliary parts off rear axle ready to reassemble. Ditching mk2 rear calipers in favour of used working and a lot more reliable mk4 golf ones. Rapidly running out of room in my garage!
I've run out of room in my lockup, garage, shed and attic; amazing how a small car spreads out. You are making good progress ?

@stevec I've been at it 4 years now and you are well ahead of me and I didn't need to do any welding:

I haven't gone that far with mine tho. Engine is staying put. Do you have the horn push for your steering wheel? I bought the wrong one for my power steering wheel.

Yes just today refitted it, please tell me you don't want the part number, its a bit of a b****r to wiggle off. If you need it I'll convince myself it needs testing and I'll get in there tomorrow.
Edit, I noticed you have PAS, I don't have PAS
Edit 2 looks like your part number is 191 419 669 G, check it out here https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/golf/go/1989-92/4/419-103010/#7

In the early 90s I didn’t have a Golf GTi, but did have a black Samsonite hardshell briefcase with red detailing
I had one of those too. Then upgraded to a real leather jobie (Mrs Mac worked for a leather goods distributor).
Kept the sarnies really fresh.
Mac.

Update on golf.
Rear tyre well and passenger rear wheel inner arch all repaired, rear beam in being powder coated. Hopefully going to tackle rear drivers inner arch/fuel neck holder next week. One nasty battle scar in rear tyre well, panel had badly rotted due to rear screen smashed and tailgate covered with tarpaulin. It wouldn't have gotten that bad if previous owner had removed bung from tyre well.

Your rear axle is much better than mine was.
It was bad. I attempted to wet sand blast it outside my garage. That picture is after 3 bags of kiln dried sand and numerous gallons of water. I gave up and decided to let someone else do it. Local powder coating specialist £75+vat. A no brainer, as kiln dried sand is £5-6per bag then prime paint etc and it would never be as good as powder coating. Got new rear axle bushes ready to press in.

I trimmed the flange off my old bushes and put them back in for blasting. That way no blast medium or primer got in there, because they were cleaned out and greased they just slid out and the new ones slid in. I fully seated the new ones pressing on the rubber, that odd shaped flange makes it difficult to press on the steel so they have to slide.

Made my own insert tool to do the job. Will polish inside of rear beam to get nice fit.

HI All.
Three door 1990 spec mk2 Golf GTI 1800 8 Valve with a TSR head (unsure of what work done to it). Finished in brilliant black metallic (most of it) wings and front bumper are new need painting.
Update on golf.
Finished all floor repairs, Refitted mk3 golf fuel tank with new stainless straps, Rear beam powdercoated new bushes refitted back on car.
New drive shafts with inner and outer cv joints, new suspension eibach springs bilstein b4 dampers with new meyle top mounts dust covers etc. New FAI front control arms with ball joints.
Upgraded front brakes to refurbished 16v hubs and 256mm calipers, rear calipers audi tt, upgraded master cylinder to meyle 22.5mm, removed rear side windows addressed rust caused by side panel clips rotting out, unable to get mk2 ones so trying mk3 panel clips(slightly bigger but should do job) and refitted. The car is now back on the floor with freshly powder coated 15" Estoril alloys.
Removed old oil, removed sump(had been patched welded) and all water hoses and metal water pipe, water/oil cooler.
Hoses cleaned and flushed refitted, new metal water pipe fitted.
Once sump removed and binned, cleaned bottom end and inspected for wear no metal flakes in old oil and no water ingress.
New sump and gasket refitted, fresh cheap tesco oil put in(as flushing oil) new oil filter(bosch) turned engine over by hand and checked all marks.
Still have a mountain of Jobs to do.
Fit sound deadening to bulkhead and floor, refit dash after tweeters fitted, plumb in brake lines, fit new hoses, bleed and pressure test.
Repair drivers door (rusted out bottom rear corner) repair hole in roof, repair and refit headlining, plumb in fuel system and test start, flush out coolant ways with cabin heater bypassed(new heater matrix), refit all interior, Take bumper and wings for paint, try to remove storage dents all over car (mainly roof and bonnet). Check over, power steering system(possible leak).
Repair front big bumper arches and side body kit and refit after wings painted and fitted, refit front fogs into bumper after clear protective film applied to glass then fit to car, test all electrics and go around every suspension nut and bolt torqueing to correct setting. Leave the car ticking over to check if its holding temperature/ and stable idle. Drain off all fluids including gearbox oil(when warm), reconnect all coolant systems and leak test all sytems.
Then after all that work It might be ready for it's first mot since 2008!

A 1989 small bumper 8v GTI, just short of 90k miles This is it 6 years ago before I started work on it. I started with a car that was good so despite all of my effort you will have to go under the car or under the the bonnet to spot my improvements. Photos in the coming weeks will look exactly the same.

Edit, except the mud flaps will be back on.

Lovely looking original. So many people ditched the small bumpers so this will make this rarer. Complete rear parcel shelf, a solid one used to be hens teeth even early 2000's!?

This gives an indication of what I've been up to, all painted parts have been painted (except the block), all plated parts plated, gaskets and seals all replaced, head reconditioned, gearbox partially rebuilt, factory messy wax replicated, harness extensively reworked. There is no welding on this car.

Wow you've got a cracker there looks totally factory oem but cleaner great car mate. I wonder what the parcel shelf is worth!! !
It is totally factory / OEM, or at least it was until 6 years ago. I've had to use aftermarket parts but kept them to original spec replacements.
Bought it new :)
Still original inside too:
