Anyone here own an UP Gti?

Ahh well. Through gritted teeth i handed back the Up Gti. What a nice, easy, and exciting car to drive. Seriously thinking now of having the A2 fettled with. As nice as my A2 is in standard form, got to give it a chance over next 3 years to change my mind.
Steve

Get it remapped mate, it will change the car for you.

They are available again but with an increased price tag of around £2000. The only difference I can see with the "new" ones are the redesigned exterior badging/steering wheel and lane assist.

VW took it of sale as it wasn’t WLTP tested, it is now and suspect some minor modifications (for emissions purposes) and now back on sale.

Worth noting that pre WLTP cars tend to be quicker than post according to the WLTP YouTube videos I’ve seen, hasn’t seemed to have impacted diesels though as none of them have posted different times as far as I’m aware, they're just in different emissions brackets.

WLTP has taken a number of cars of sale and some manufacturers have stopped selling some models altogether, the BMW M3 for example.

No way? No M3??

Yeah, they carried on selling the M4 (coupe and cab) but took the M3 off sale. Mainly due to the cost being excessive to test vs number sold. Wierdly the M3 is a model in its own right an can’t piggyback off the M4 despite having mostly the same components.

I know someone that bought about 10 of the last ones before going off sale to try to profit from it. I’ll have to look into that one to see if it worked.

Up! GTi now available again. What were they thinking, stopping them for a while? Madness.

Up! GtI Relaunched

I love the idea, the basis of my a2 GTI was as I always wanted a lupo gti but have 2 children.

The only thing that the up! Seems to do better is the infotainment, maybe the ride but I haven’t drive one. I love the idea of them and the 1.0L turbo seems a good idea.

Me too. Same engine in the A1 can be had with a DSG box.

That’s when my mind started running riot, an A2 with the Up GTI engine and a DSG box. Perfect as a modern day A2 and would be faster than my FSI. My reckoning is 0-60 in 8.8 seconds as it would probably weigh circa 100kg less than both the A2 FSI (0-60 9.8s), A1 (0-60 9.4s).

if money becomes no object I’ll get it done, until then I’ll keep dreaming.

They are a great car...I've had mine for over a year and it's good fun. I've mothballed the 17" wheels in favour of 15,s (thanks Darren C) and it's a lot comfier for my old git back. ?

Yep, I bought the Club Up for my mum in 2015, drove it last week and she’s done the grand total of 4400 miles. When she wants to hang up her driving gloves for good I want it. That may be another 5 or so years but I expect it won’t have more than 10k on the clock.

I don’t think the whole FSI engine and gearbox weighs 100kg

No, that’s not what I meant, apologies if it was a bit ambiguous.

The weight difference between the 1.4 petrol (whole car) and the 1.6 FSI is about 75 kg. I would assume that the 1.0 3cyl and a DSG box would weigh a bit less than a 1.4 engine and gearbox so thats where my 100kg came from (with a bit of rounding). It was a finger in the air but wouldn’t expect a 1.0 3cyl A2 to weight more than 1000kg.

The 1.4 weight comes from a car without aircon

The 1.6 weight comes from a car with air con.

Don’t know why but apparently this is true, seen this quoted a few times on here.

The 1.4 is an Alu block the 1.0L I don’t think would be much lighter to be honest as has a turbo also and all the pipes and fittings.

Noted, I’ll have to weight one if I ever start a project to put the Up GTI engine in the A2.

I’ve seen the up GTI quoted at a weight of 995kg however autotrader lists at 1070kg. Now I appreciate this is spec dependant and 995kg could have been dry weight but in my mind an A2 with the GTI engine shouldn’t weigh more than the up GTI?

Oh it really is also there are so many didn’t ways they weigh it! I have never been able to work out if an a2 FSI is heavier than a lupo gti also everywhere I go I get different weights for both.. think they are about the same.

The a2 I think its a larger car than an up! Isn’t it. Around 1000kg for both would sounds about right.

From fastestlaps.com

Lupo gti 975kg
Up gti 988kg
Audi a2 1.4 899kg

So who knows
