Hi there!

I need some rear break discs and pads. Can anyone recommend a good, reliable set and a good reseller?

I have a 1.6 sport.

Thanks in advance,
Mike :)

Mintex ones from ebay are good and get good reviews from other members. I have been having euro car parts "pagid" discs and pads (audi pads are pagid)but i have had to have them changed twice under warranty-now good and 10k+ miles on them.
hope that helps Mike

Stick with the major names. I personally use GSF quite a bit and also ECP (with discount code)

I put rubbish on the back as they dont do much and tend never to be worn by the time the rears have been wiped out.
£25 on ebay for both last time.

However on the front my mintex set have long gone with rust,
On a brembo set with matching pads up front for a harder pedal feel and Bite

I buy ATE discs and pads for all cars. They are a little more expensive than no-name, but I have a saying: not to save on tires and brakes.

Thanks for the info!

Do you know if Audi use Pagid brake disks as well?

I believe I'm correct in saying that Audi discs have a secondary coating applied to the non braking surfaces. This really does help in slowing down the rusty disc look. I'm not aware of any of the other discs having this silver/grey coating. I know some discs have been black coated or a form of cad plate.

Thanks for that!

Was considering going straight to the dealer for the disks and you may have made my mind up for me. Probably source some padgid brake pads from the internet.

Thanks again :)

I've got Brembo discs and Ferodo DS pads.
Stick to well-known brand names or just go OEM. Very little to be gained with aftermarket "performance" discs. Pads can make a noticeable difference but there's always a trade-off between bite and power from cold, vs hot performance and fade resistance.

ATEs are the only aftermarket ones I'd recommend and they really are *good* especially when warm. You know, don't press down any more and yet the brake force increases mildly :) Not too shabby when soaking, either, I'm seriously impressed. The ceramic pads are also supposed to cut down brake dust; I run the "original recipe" and they do seem worse in this respect than the OEM pads.

They're the only pad / disc combo to get a consistent recommendation across the German forum, otherwise I wouldn't have bought them.
