ARB Again

Put the A2 into the main dealer for the long life service this morning.
Got a phone call saying the ARB needed doing as the mounts were cracked.
I explained that they had already done this job for me in the past so why did it need doing again and if it does then shouldn`t they cover the cost.
Apparently they did it 3 years ago (20`000 miles) so no they won`t cover the cost.
Is it just me being picky,3 years and only 20k miles does not seem to be a reasonable return considering the cost?

Sounds to me as if they had fitted an old style roll bar and not the new style(new has no plastic sleeves to split)
The revised part I believe was available from 2004/5.
I would be asking why they fitted a known "old" part. If they still don't play ball think about getting polo bushes fitted - under £10 for the bushes.

That sounds quite likely.Thanks
Do you by any chance have the part No. for the old arb,or know where I could get it as I still have the invoice so I can check to see if this is indeed what happened?

Thanks Spike
The part No. on this list is the same as mine so if this is the new style ARB listed in this posting then mine is also the new model.
Does not fill one with confidence that Audi have solved the problem of shoddy ARBs if mine has deteriorated so quickly.
Also made me smile to see that they have charged me £4.17 + vat for screenwash.
I had only just topped mine up with screenwash after a trip to Devon, wonder how they managed to get it all in.

To me its not clear what the latest repair involves. If they are just replacing the bushes and U clamps plus an hours labour it could be a reasonable fix. If it involves another roll bar it sounds suspicious and I'd be asking them to put the car on the ramps and show me the problem.

Cheers Spike

The phone call definitely stated a price of over £200 so they must be looking at replacing the whole assembly.
Possibly a case of a lack of communication between the mechanics & the managers if your feeling magnanimous.
Or possibly their usual "fleece the customer for all you can possibly get" if your not.
I think that the screen wash charge says it all.
They have a palace of glass & stainless steel to run & are grubbing about on the floor (or in your pocket) for pennies for the upkeep.
Sadly no-one seems to know of a good Independant Garage in Brighton or Worthing.
